    The reason is eimple.

Indians love a bargain and they love to buy things cheap.

It also gives them a feeling that they have 'arrived'. Subscribing to what is known as the 'waste economy'.

It is only when the discover that overall it turns out be expensive, they are somewhat dissuaded. Also, when they are made aware how dangerous some of the cheap Chinese stuff can be through western and Indian media reports.

Nationally, it makes good politics to buy cheap Chinese stuff like machinery, turbines and so on.

Great for conserving on money and have more projects on line, more bangs for the bucks.

Good to show for 'progress' and a yen for 'modernisation' and becoming a reckonable world power.........till the bubble bursts.

By that time, the Govt which bought is back in the saddle and Govt sponsored committees 'organised' to cover up the scams!

There are many willing Chackos and Ashwini Kumars in India!

Chinese have flooded the Indian market right from holi colors, plastic, electronic item etc. it is our brain less government who has fed our people with cheap chinese products. People have no choice but to buy cheap products that are available in plenty.

Ok so all of us talks about "action" but seems like govt is not interested in any action so is there any plan to boycott or at least minimize the use of Chinese products?

I am pretty ok to shell a bit more amount in local product so at least the money goes around in local economy and infrastructure rather than going to a country which is going to use it against us ultimately ie the current situation.

I think there is NO SENSE OF NATIONALISM in India. China uses it's own products and sells it worldwide. For few bucks we are ok to make other strong and making us weaker.:tsk:

Our pockets don't allow many of us to fulfill our aspiration with good quality products, so Chinese products prove to be handy for having first hand experience.

If you want curb on their products in our market then common man can't do much. Ask GOI to impose various surcharges and duties on their cheap product.

Asking govt is one way definitely but you know the stance of govt its super corrupt.

Do we realize any individual responsibility or just like a typical Indian put the onus to "govt" to do something all the time? Once again if we sustain our own economy by using our own products we can manage to avoid these cheap Chinese products.

Because 90% of all things on this planet is made in china. If you want to boycott chinese products, or products which use chinese parts, then you would have to figure out an alternative source (which does not exist in the required numbers) or pretty much live in the stone age.

Remember, even iPhone & iPod & iPad are made in chengdu, china.

Re: Why Indians buy Chinese Products even when they are taking our lan

China is India's Largest Import partner acquiring 12% of the total imports made by India. India is 19th largest exporter and 10th largest importer in world.
    Also,
India's labor regulations – among the most restrictive and complex in the world – have constrained the growth of the formal manufacturing sector where these laws have their widest application. Better designed labor regulations can attract more labor- intensive investment and create jobs for India's unemployed millions and those trapped in poor quality jobs. Given the country's momentum of growth, the window of opportunity must not be lost for improving the job prospects for the 80 million new entrants who are expected to join the work force over the next decade.
    And then,
Slow agricultural growth is a concern for policymakers as some two-thirds of India's people depend on rural employment for a living. Current agricultural practices are neither economically nor environmentally sustainable and India's yields for many agricultural commodities are low. Poorly maintained irrigation systems and almost universal lack of good extension services are among the factors responsible. Farmers' access to markets is hampered by poor roads, rudimentary market infrastructure, and excessive regulation.

Re: Why Indians buy Chinese Products even when they are taking our lan

That's right.A lot of international stuff is actually made in chop shops of China where Cheap Chinese labours have to work 70-90 hours a week like a bandhua mazdoor.

But the question is again the same why Indians cant make their own stuff which sustains it's own economy which is of reasonable price? Why so much dependence on China for such products which can be made locally.Other countries can do with it but in the example of India they are first selling their products and taking our land as well. We share borders with them and the myth "Do business with China and relations would be better" doesn't seems to be working. China doesn't care of "Business" and mocking Indians today.

The govt is ultimately chosen by us.Why not do something which put pressure on govt and then at the same time avoiding any Chinese stuff as much possible if not completely.

Re: Why Indians buy Chinese Products even when they are taking our lan

1)Chinese are good in copying stuff. They made a market by making duplicate of things and flooding the market. Many Swadesi companies cant match their output.
Not just India, many companies in the west has also suffered because of this duplication culture.

2)The PRC has a working culture which is quiet infamous for its human rights violations.
In India with its many worker unions and agencies, Indian companies has to provide ample compensation and workable environment to its workers or suffer the wrath of strikes and many forms of non cooperation.

3)It has come to a situation where, retailing Chinese products is more or less viable than manufacturing and marketing it.
From raw materials to finished products there is a huge dependance on PRC. This should be reversed.

I believe that we cannot do anything on a war footing to correct this dependance. but its a gradual process and we can cut down the dependance on chinese products by developing market for Swadesi products and supporting it. Govt has to form policies to help companies in industrial zones.
Supporting Indian companies and state run companies by buying their products will help the local market.

I always try to avoid buying Chinese products but in some cases you run out of options for instance simple thing as good quality Nail -Clippers made in India are not available in India, toys for kids are another example likewise list goes on.
Even our branded laptops and mobiles are made in China we don't have made in India products in those segments.
Due to cheap labour all branded equipmentds are mostly of Chinese or Taiwan make.

Answer to your question is hidden in your question itself.

You said Bandhua Majdoor works somewhere like 80 hours per week .They are communists and it's their advantage hence they can very easily enforce those labour rules but in democratic set up like ours we just can't implement those harsh labour laws.

We can ditch Chinese products completely only when very strong sentiment against China sweeps across the whole nation and that is only possible when our media thinks it's right time to do so.

Indians should stop buying petrol, because most of our petrol comes from middle east, and middle eastern countries also fund wahabbis. Wahabbis are a cause of much misery to us.
