They should build a brand new planned city for their capital, like Chandigarh. It's a good opportunity to boost the economy of the region.
Agreed.

But it should be near populated areas and be well planned otherwise it'll be like fatehpur sikri :yey:

It should be vijaywada. Its near Chennai and bangalore with both being 7 hour and 8 hour distance respectively.
Vishakhapatnam being having many defence set ups and also Ins Arihant and other submarines should not be touched.

A state capital should be built around a secular population.
(no offence) People from Vijayawada are Racist and Regionalist and this is a dangerous mixture.
Dk,

By the same logic, I have been suggesting for a long time that Dilli should not be the capital of India. The people are racist and regionalist in Delhi. This is why I have always recommended that a new city be set up from scratch in the central regions of India - a planned city. :thumb:

Racist? Define Race in Indian context.. Regionalist? If Vijayawada people would have been regionalist, the capital of initial andhra state would have been vijayawada or the capital of united AP would have been Vijayawada. Vijayawada was never the official capital of the state despite being called political, economic, and cultural capital of AP. It is one of the most forward looking cities in India and most certainly enterprising. Look at AP history. Lots of eminent visionaries and intellectuals are from there. It would too prejudicial of you to make such a silly statement (sounding racist..ehh? ). Compared to our national capital Delhi, it is much much better law abiding city despite being much more densely populated than Delhi. Secular? Have you ever looked at the names in the list of mayors of Vijayawada?

Six cities in race: Visakhapatnam, Ongole, Kurnool, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry

Tirupati : Far away from the other end of the state and not a good choice for capital being the pilgrimage center.
Kurnool: Erstwhile capital but far away from the other end of state and not large enough to overcome the restriction. Falls outside the main road and rail network.
Visakhapatnam: Though far off from the other end, the significance of the city outweighs the negative. But it has the eastern naval command and it would be a good idea to keep it seperate from the capital. Road and rail networks are good. Fresh water supply will be a concern to be the capital city and mainly it is vulnerable as it not shielded from natural distasters like Tsunami, being a port city.
Ongole: Too near to the sea for security purposes, city expansion and avoidance of natural disasters. City is on the main road network on the Delhi-Chennai route.

So i eliminate these choices.

The remaining two choices are good for being capital. Both Vijayawada and Rajahmundry are located by the river sides providing water to the expanding cities if they are made capitals. Vijayawada has machilipatnam port and Rajamundry has kakinada port nearby within a radius of around 75 kms. So port access is provided without limiting the expansion of the city. Connectivity is good for both.

My first preference would be Vijayawada as it is the junction of Delhi-Chennai train corridor and Kolkata-Chennai train corridor. It has one of the biggest train junctions in India and also has the biggest Bus terminal in Asia. Road connectivity is very good to the entire state and falls on the Golden Quadrilateral of the highways. It already has established markets and good educational institutions. While Rajahmundry lacks proximity to another big city, Vijayawada has Guntur in it's proximity. Just like Hyderabad-Secunderabad twin cities, Vijayawada-Guntur can take that place. Or even better, Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali tricity area can become an IT hub, industrial center and market junctions. This tri-city capital certainly has the potential to outclass Hyderabad city if properly planned.

I agree. Make Jammu the new capital of India. Jammu the home of non racist, peaceful people will accomodate all other ethnic groups.

Jammu is too far North, and too close to Pakiland. We need something in the center of India, geographically.

Visakhapatnam: The Union government, through the state revenue department, has sought details on the availability of revenue and forest land measuring 20,000 acres in Vizag. The Centre is said to be planning to take a final call on the new capital to build a state Assembly, Secretariat, High Court and other major infrastructure including better road connectivity and water resources. Wednesday has been set as deadline to submit the report.

The four revenue divisional officers in the district have asked all the 43 tehsildhars in the district to conduct a survey in their respective areas and file reports. They are also collecting details about land acquired by various government agencies like APIIC for setting up industries in the district.

RINL had recently earmarked nearly 1,800 acres of land to Gangavaram Port Ltd for the setting up of a private port. If forest land is utilised, alternative land will have to be given to the forest department elsewhere. Revenue staff is also identifying alternative land.

"All our staff is busy compiling the data sought by the Centre. They want 20,000 acres at one place, and are considering Vizag as a possible option for a new capital for Seemandhra. We have identified land at one place in Anandapuram and K. Kotapadu," an RDO told this correspondent.

Vijayawada, Guntur, Ongole and Tirupati are also in the race. With an annual GDP of 26 billion dollars, two major ports, steel plant and international airport Vizag is fully in the race.
