Indian army should have good infra structure along India-Tibet border and also we need transport aircraft in abundance to move more divisions when in need. We need C-130 Hercules and some heavy lifters.

I'd like to have 9K720 Iskander Missile for IA

Iskander is precision-guided tactical and theater missiles for the Ground Forces.

Accuracy is 5-7m :D









One of the most devastating and accurate weapons in the Russian arsenal. The mobile high-precision tactical missile system is intended to engage point and area-type targets by conventional warheads in the depth of the enemy's operational battle order. The targets are:

* various fire weapons (missile systems, multiple rocket launch systems, long-range artillery);


* air and Anti-Missile Defence systems;

* fixed and rotary wing aircrafts on airfields;

* command posts and communication nodes;

* most important objects of civil infrastructure;

* other important point and area-type targets on the enemy's territory.


The system consists of:

* 9M723 missile;
* 9P78 Launching Vehicle;
* 9T250 Transport and Loader Vehicle;
* 9C522 Command and Staff Vehicle;
* 9C920 Information Preparation Station Vehicle;
* Maintenance and Repair Vehicle;
* Life Support Vehicle;
* Sets of depot and training equipment.

The Iskander system is provided with the solid-propellant single-stage missile with the nonseparable warhead. The missile is guided by means of the aerodynamic and gas-dynamic vanes within the whole flight path. The flight path of the Iskander is not ballistic, but controlable. The missile continually changes its trajectory plane. Its manoeuvres are especially active at the boost phase and at approaching to the target: the g-factor amounts to 20–30. Having the small reflective surface, the missile follows the most part of its path on the altitude of 50m that also significantly decreases the shot-down probability of the missile. This "invisibility" effect is achieved by both construction specific and treating the missile with special coatings.

The missile directly approaches to the target under the inertial system control, and after that it is guided by the autonomous correlation-extreme optical self-homing head. The operation principle of the homing system is follows. The optical device receives and processes the terrain image of the target region which is compared with the reference image in the on-board computer. The reference is being input during the step of the missile preparation to the launch. The optical homing head has increased immunity to existing electronic warfare and allows fire the missiles even at moonless nights, when there is no additional illumination of the target, engaging the target with accurcy of ±1-2m.

The missile can be equipped with the warheads of various type (10 types in all) including:

* Multiple warhead with the influence-actuated fragmentation subammunition;

* Multiple warhead with high-explosive dual purpose subammunition;

* Multiple warhead with self-homing subammunition;

* Multiple warhead of fuel-air explosive action;

* High-explosive fragmentation warhead;

* General purpose warhead;

* Penetrating warhead.

The multiple warhead provides opening at the altitude of 0.9-1.4km with subsequent separating and stabilizing the subammunition. The subammunition is equipped with RF-sensors and is activated at the altitude of 6-10m above the target.
The fully autonomous launcher vehicle is constructed on the basis of the wheeled all-road 8x8 chassis (MAZ7930) and is intended to store and transport the missiles, to prepare the launch and perform the launch within the fire sector of ±90° relative to the direction of the vehicle's approach. The launcher vehicle provides: automatic positioning, data exchange with all the command and control levels, combat alert duty and launch preparation with the missile in horizontal position, firing the missile, storing and testing the missile. The time of being at the start position is minimal and amounts up to 20 minutes. There are not required the special engineering preparation and surveying of the start positions for firing. It is able to perform launches from so called "on-march readiness" when the launcher vehicle drives at any ground (excluding marshy terrain and quicksand), and its team while remaining in the cabin prepares and starts the missile in automated cycle. After that the launcher moves to the recharging point and after having the missiles loaded is ready to repeat the missile attack from any start position.

The Transport and Loader Vehicle (TLV) uses the chassis of MAZ79306 and is equipped with the jib crane. The full weight amounts to 40,000kg, the TLV crew consists of 2 persons.

The automatic control system is built on the basis of the Command-and-Staff Vehicle (CSV) that is constructed on the chassis of the KAMAZ family and is unified for whole range of the command and control levels. The definite level of command and control (brigade, battalion, firing battery) is program-adjustable during operation. To provide information exchange the launcher is equipped with the command, control and communication hardware. The information exchange can be realized through both open and secure communication channels.

The Iskander system is combined with various command, control and intelligence systems. The target information is transmitted from a satellite, a reconnaissance aircraft or an unmanned air vehicle (of the Reys-D type) to the Information Preparation Station that calculates the flight profile and prepares the reference data for the missiles equipped with the optical self-homing warheads. Then this information is transmitted through the signal channels to the Command-and-Staff Vehicles of the battalion and battery commanders and from there to the launchers. The commands to fire the missiles can either be formed in the CSVs or be received from the command and control stations of the senior commanders.

The Maintenance and Repair Vehicle (MRV) has the chassis of the KAMAZ family and provides operational checking the on-board hardware of the missiles located on the Transport and Loader Vehicle (as well as into containers), checking the devices of the group spare part sets for the system, and routine repairing by the forces of the MRV crew. The weight of the vehicle is 13,500kg, the build-up time is 20 minutes, the duration of the operation check of the on-board missile hardware is 18 minutes, the crew consists of 2 persons.

The Life Support Vehicle provides accomodation of the combat crews (up to 8 persons) and serves for rest and feeding.

For the first time in the world a missile system with a firing range not exceeding 300 km is capable of accomplishing all combat missions using conventional warheads and having two missiles on a launcher, which substantially increases the fire power potential of missile units.

Iskander-E missile system's features ensure:

- highly precise and effective engagement of various types of targets;

- possibility of concealed preparation, combat duty and delivery of effective missile strikes;

- automatic computation and input of a missile flying mission by the launcher devices;

- high probability of combat mission accomplishment in heavy hostile jamming environments;

- high probability of trouble-free missile operation during launch preparation and in flight;

- high tactical maneuverability due to cross-country combat vehicles mounted on all-wheel drive, chassis, and strategic mobility owing to transportability of the missile system by all types of transport facilities, including transport aircraft;

- automation of missile unit battle management, immediate processing of intelligence data and their dissemination to appropriate command levels;

- long service life and ease of operation.

All of the above ammo was successfully stopped by both armor systems in this testing, with no armor failures or penetrations, even after receiving multiple hits

Is it good to buy a foreign LMG get the licenced to manufature for more than 2 million strong army in short notice ?

Or

Modify existing LMG with both feeds, In short notice ?

Replace all the LMG, with indigenous or foreign. INSAS is out the door anyways with F-INSAS rifle. Bren should have been out a while. It is "replaced" in the books(I heard), but still used in India.


And you're not going to give 2 million soldiers LMGs anyways.. And I bet the Indian army will replace INSAS LMG before doing belt feed INSAS anyways.

F-INSAS Is still in making, though i hope it replace Insas..

Bren can only replace by Insas LMG coz it is mag feed, IA kept LMG as mag fed..

May be more, Coz Rifles and weapons not only manufacture only for service but emergency stocks which raised the number beyond the service ones, Belt feed LMG is call GPMG, IA ordered GPMG for RR and SF and now using PKM in both..

But for regulars the concept remain till LMG, So IA need a LMG both belt feed as well as mag in one..
And their is no way LMG can be belt feed coz its against IA ideology..

India should ditch the mag LMGs.

Mag feed LMGs like Stoner 63s and RPKs are yesteryear LMGs.
