After opposing same-sex marriage At UN earlier this year , India is ready to join another elite group : Countries who banned porn.

This is probably the most authoritarian government India has had since the Emergency. They are trying to control every aspect of our lives as they see fit.

I won't be surprised if India slips a dozen places in the Democracy Index soon.

Banning NGO and GreenPeace is a bigger threat to us but most of us supported it.

We are getting what we deserve. After all, we have elected a man who already set a track record of such behaviour. Of excessive kulcha, criminal intent, murder, and what not.

We made the bed, now we fucking lie on it...

Your hatred of homosexuality is a VICTORIAN RELIC. The authentice Hindu culture had a healthy attitude to open sexuality, as expressed by the world-famous carvings of Khajurao temple, and our most famous cultural export: Kama Sutra

Bhai in India making and watching porn is illegal .. CD and DVD of porn were being sold in clandestine manner
So tell me how porn website comes under legal jurisdiction
And your blind hatred of modi is the main reason that you didn't gave any thought before starting this thread
And my dear friend LGBT is also illegal in India and that is judgement of SC and that happened at congress tenure , not sure how are you implying government role in such matter
So please stop such blind hatred and try to think in logical manner
PS : though I am in support to legalize porn in India

I was a blind believer in Modi because I thought he will bring an end to pakistan issue, bring us to UN, end seperatism, finish 370 and return black money from switzerland. instead all that is happening is RSS agenda.

Please don't divert from the thread , and answer question I have raised
When was porn legal in India ?
How internet porn website are different to CD and DVD of porn ?
When was LGBT marriages were allowed in India (except after brief period when high court allowed it but SC reverted it )?

Please dont be a blind supporter or a blind hater , always use your logical sense !!

And what is RSS agenda? , please open separate thread for that so that we all can know about it
Similarly please open new threads for Black money , Pakistan and UN

People should talk only when they are well aware of an issue.

    1. Watching porn was NEVER illegal in India. It was legal, and still is legal.
    2. There was a PIL lodged in Supreme Court against so-called "revenge porn". Some girls have been complaining that their videos were uploaded by ex-boyfriends, and a petitioner lodged a PIL against it.
    3. Supreme Court has said (Justice Dattu) that porn cannot be banned, it would violate fundamental rights.
    4. The government has banned all websites which had complaints of hosting "revenge porn". There are nearly 870 such web sites. All other porn web sites function normally.
    5. Unfortunately some of the most popular porn websites such as xvideos.com, redtube.com and youporn.com fell within the ban ambit. Of course, because the sheer popularity of these websites ensures that there will be some or the other "revenge porn" video on these.

This is the real picture. This is also a stupid and idiotic move by typical babus who have no idea how the internet works. They have no idea that such things just cannot be "banned", no matter what you do. However, I reiterate that there is no "general porn ban". It is just that list of 870 websites which was banned. Even this should not have been done - the babus are just making fools of themselves.

If the government really does something as stupid as "banning porn", they will learn several tough lessons pretty soon.

On an unrelated note: dear @pmaitra and @sob, that casteist anti-India bigot called @Jatt.Hindustan is back in a new avatar called @punjab47. There seems to have been no change in attitude and posting decorum. Kindly take note of the post he made in the thread related to demise of @Ray sir. I strongly recommend that this chap should be shown the door.

those are inconsequential if money keeps flowing in.
but that's out of the ambit of the topic at hand (and a different thing) and what the govt. has done.

    1. Every industry has its own set of dirty minds and oppression of lower rung. Now, porn industry itself is a dirty industry and understandably full of sleazes, hence no wonder the girls that work there gets more perversely affected given the nature of their work. Btw, I don't think I feel sorry for the girls who willingly come to that industry. If an adult fails to understand what putting hand into flames means, that person is liable to be burnt and none can be blamed. Before you say it, I need to say that I do understand that all the girls that feature in the videos, aren't willing and many, particularly the non-USA porn industry, is full of girls who are forced by gangs into the industry and exploited. But, the problem is, even if the industry is shut down, those girls are gonna be exploited one way or another, unless you take out the gangs/mobs that exploit the girls.

    2. The effect of children below maturity should be nil. Every single device that can be used to access internet porn sites can be installed with parental control, and that is generally very successful, unless one knows the bypass. Now, how many kids actually have enough knowledge to bypass them? And, those who could, you cannot prevent them anyway.

    3. I actually think all porn doesn't have any negative impact on society as a whole. Now, you have to notice the qualifier I used. Some bizarre and weird and extreme porns are surely not in that category.

    4. In some cases porn is beneficial for Indian society actually, as men/women will have urges and there needs to be a media to release it when there's not their partners available. Unlike western countries, India has a huge male population who go thousands of miles leaving their family behind in search of earning, and that is not limited to only the lower economical class. Now, when this concept of leaving the partner and staying for a long period of time is alien to western society ion general, it is a necessary for Indian men. Now, how do those men have the sexual release? Do they solicit from a professional which actually is more hazardous to the overall society?

    5. Also, there's an argument that porn offers an outlet for some wild fantasies which a person wouldn't try in his real life, and frankly that is true.

As, long as people are living and breathing, the sexual outlet is a necessity of life. Ignoring them is not only stupid, but criminal. Porn is actually relatively harmless outlet that the society can have for sexual release of men and women.

I don't support legalising producing porn in India, ever. It would cause too must strife to bother.

You hit the nail on the head with the second post.

We don't want to become another extreme Islamic nation like Pakistan. We will really start searching for goats and camels if we really "ban porn".

Regarding effect on children - there are hundreds of things which may affect children. Violence, gore, expletives and abuse, etc. etc. Can we ban the internet? And rest assured, even if we pretend that we can "ban porn", we really cannot. The internet is un-bannable. Nothing can be banned. Better parental supervision and guidance in tune with modern times is the answer.

Oppression of girls in porn industry: there are various kinds of girls and various kinds of porn. Do you really think Sunny Leone was ever "oppressed"?! She became damn rich and earned a shitload of money and really enjoyed her job. Most cases are like that, there isn't much "oppression" in the Western porn industry. If you want to avoid oppression, the best way is to bring it above-board and regulate it. If girls get into pornography or prostitution out of their free will, there will be no oppression. If the taboo and stigma associated with it goes away we will have girls complaining to the police in cases of oppression, which they cannot do now.

yes, mostly, as you wrote, though despite all that they have their own issues there; it isn't a totally rosy industry afterall. but that's something else and irrelevant here.

i don't visit such sites, but read that 'randia' (reddit India) is infected with AAP and leftist cabal. funnily, reading a thread on the poisoning of water of some village near Kodaikanal some months back on reddit, some were complaining randia has 'so many spokespersons of the govt'.
