What equipment will Sri Lanka need to maintain her neutrality in a global conflict?

First of all we have to realize that being a island nation Sri Lanka need to maintain a credible Navy and a Air force to defend her air and maritime interests. The biggest threat to Sri Lanka's national integrity is India. Being just 32 km away from Indian landmass It's the relationship with India that matter most when facing global scale conflict involving China, Pakistan and India. Therefore here are some military equipments currently available to purchase if Sri Lankan economy could cope with it. Note that Sri Lanka doesn't have such a economical capacity to sustain a credible force in Indian Ocean region and with in a Conventional Conflict Scenario.

Air Defense

1 X S300 PMU-1 or PMU-2 defending Colombo municipality

3-6 X SA-22 Pantsir S1 or SA 17 Buk M2 for defending the S300 system against smart weapons and cruise missiles

2-4 X SA 19 2S6M Tunguska M for point defense interception

Several modern AAA unit for the defense of other key facilities

12-16 X SU 30MKK or another version

Navy

2 X Kilo class submarines

10-12 X Air defense vessels typically AAW destroyers or frigates

Credible number of fast attack craft currently exist in SLN such as Dhoras for the SBS

You must be nuts. Is that all you need? Our strategy will be to draw you out and fight in our advantage. Like diplomatically and we fight on our own terms by making a naval blockade and starving you for resources. That would be a better option.

How will SL will face 1 CBG, 1 squadron MKI with Brahmos. It will not take more than a day to attack and capture whole SL.

No Frigates, No Destroyers, No Corvettes, No Submarines, No Amphibious ships. Nothing.

But I don't think that is possible also.

SL GDP is around 40 Bn $, Our Defence budget is around 40 Bn $ for a year. 8)

What about missile defense?

1 week is too long imo.......your only chance is bringing the international community into the picture(read China) but that would mean rendering the whole concept of "National Integrity" moot. Your best bet is maintaining cordial relations with India.

Forget about Su30, S-300, Russia won't sell that to you as we already operating and better version since decade.

Russia won't risk business worth 50 bn $ for 1 bn $. They are not fools.


BTW, How you will stop Brahmos, Prahar Missile. Once launched from Tamil nadu, It can destroy whole SL.

Defence equipment/system are very expensive. I repeat again, Peace with India is best security for you.

How would you maintain neutrality while allying with China and Pakistan?

The title of the thread and OP dont make sense. How will the weapons listed "buy" neutrality?
It looks more like an India specific threat scenario more than anything else.

The old saying in Hindi which when translated to English is don't mess with crocadiles if you want to live in the water. The only thing that can save Lanka is not play China against India on its soil as it is doing right now. Good ties with India will make sure SL will be safe. By getting China in, SL has made sure it will be hurt if there is any "turf war" between India and china. It's never too late to change policies.

If China will launch any Missile against India using base from SL.

We will attack, destroy all strategic asset and capture SL on day 1. Madras regiment will do the action with full of anger.

If SL will keep China/Pak away from her country. Peace is assured with no threat. We will also protect SL in case.

Simple do nothing because you don't have a choice. If you shoot down any straying aircraft then you invite our wrath.
