BHUBANESWAR: India can create adequate employment opportunities for its people and there is no need to invite foreign companies, social activist Anna Hazare said in Odisha Friday.

Referring to South Korean steel major Posco, which is setting up a 12 million tonnes per annum mega steel plant in the state, 75-year-old Hazare said: "Not only Posco, there should be a brake on all foreign companies."

"They are taking away our land, water, and polluting our air. They are plundering our money and taking it away," Hazare said while addressing a farmers' meeting at the coastal town of Jagatsinghpur, 100 km from here, where the Posco project is being planned.

Hazare also criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for saying that foreign companies would provide employment in the country.

Citing an example of job opportunities created in his own village, the septuagenarian activist said he would launch a massive agitation to protect the interest of farmers.

Accusing the government of not providing right prices to farmers for their products, Hazare questioned why farmers should not be allowed to quote their own prices when private companies are fixing high prices of their products.

The India Against Corruption founder is on a three-day Odisha visit since Thursday. He would be addressing students, farmers and a cross-section of people.

We do not need Anna Hazara!!

Yes, he is! The issue is not just the people who take him seriously, but many others who think this way.

More than a year ago, most in DFI were Anna fans. Exceptions were @The Messiah, @nrj, and I. There were a few fence sitters who dared not go against popular opinion.

Young generation does not like Gandhi. This economic aspect is a follow-up of Gandhian philosophy and should have been expected. Till the time we do not accept that cities correspond to economic well being of the nation, we are bound to welcome philosophies which portray villages as ideal. Anyway, I saw it coming.

Although, I am not sure if his economic stance would change the number of his supporters much. There are a lot of people in India who hate market outcomes.

Hazare would be a fool to think that those temporary jobs created in villages add anything substantial to the growth of economy.
The truth is that india cannot become a prosperous self-substainable country by agriculture only,India needs' massive industrialization.

India has 700 million odd farm workers with only 150 million hectare arable land, which is not sufficient to even provide them the basic necessities of life until the population is urbanized.

A basic point is that "more farmers != more productivity" . Less farmers with better machinery will increase productivity sufficient to feed 1.2 billion Indians easily.
When a company like Posco comes then it pays hefty prices to the farmers for their land which make them super rich instantly.Case in point: Gujarat.
Another example is Formula 1 track in Greater Noida, the farmers who sold their land are now millionaires who drives SUV's and have 3 storey houses. Before that they were just producing enough to feed their family on those unproductive lands.

People like hazare or ramdev who have 0 knowledge of economics should not give their "expert opinion" on these issues but remain confined to their specialities.

Gandhians and their ideals are good at a personal level while are a disaster at a national level. True Gandhians should be kept away from matters related to economy, security and international diplomacy.

Added later: Well, that wouldn't leave them much to talk about but being Gandhians, they will try to keep themselves happy with whatever they've got!

You can hardly find a person whom you can like 100%. But you are free to like some aspects of a person and dislike some other aspects. It is clear he is being too idealist rather than being practical in some issues but still we should respect him for his social works and his protest against our politicians who have blocked 'Lokpal Bill' for some decades.

Anna Hazare is shrinking into being a retarded person and his age is showing. First he supports the establishment of draconian super-agency by the name Lokpal. Then he fasts when his unreasonable demands are not met. Now his protege has started a political party which he does not endorse. Now he rants out against foreign companies. Clearly, he and his men are retards.

Yes, I agree, but not beyond symbolism.

If he and his retinue start governing the country, everything will collapse.

There are certain pre-requisites to being a politician, and one of them is knowing how things work. We don't want a Gorbachyov in India.

    Sir,

Not speaking emotionally but he is a crusader against our Corrupt Govt.

The organization was against Govt policy of selling farmers land to Companies rather selling the Govt allotted land which their using it for thier own needs. He was actually stressed out it seems. Although we admit, This was by far the most idiotic comment by him.

Anna Hazare to campaign only for Arvind Kejriwal's party

Social activist Anna Hazare on Saturday said he will campaign only for candidates put up by Arvind Kejriwal and ruled out the possibility of supporting people from other parties.

"I will campaign only for Kejriwal's candidates," Hazare told reporters here. "There may be good people in other parties but who has the control?"
