Dr Vardhan seems to have raised a hornets nest with his latest remarks.

Earlier, Dr Harsh Vardhan landed himself into an ‘unhealthy’ controversy over Sex education and condoms.

The Indian society is a varied kaleidoscope. There are the conservative elements and that is not only confined to the rural area but also in the urban areas and metros. Then, there are those who are of what is known as the liberal mindset with 'progressive' views.
And then there are the religious leaders of all religions, all of whom invoke God and scriptures to insist that sex outside wedlock is a sin.

Now, this is a raging debate.

One wonders which viewpoint is correct.

This is what normal people are scared about the BJP.
BJP didnt win votes to 'stop' vulgarity or 'blacken' girls in party. They got it for development and strong governance.
BJP will mess it up, if they go this way. They will loose south and North east, the fastest.

What are your views on sex education?

And on that issue, what should the Govt do as a policy?

Wonder what he means by 'Crudity and graphic representation of culturally objectionable symbols'. It is a purely scientific study. If they are so concerned, they should ban porn first, not sex education.

Has anyone seen a 'sex education' textbook?

If so, please explain so that it will help us to understand the issue.

In sex education classes we are not taught how to have sexual intercourse. We are taught about Male and Female sexual organs, reproductive system and STD's. It is a general awareness program which students of that age already know about.

I think there is some truth in the minister`s words. If a society does not have high moral values it cannot achieve its goals. The advancement of modern technology does plays its role in stopping certain things but that is nothing compared to moral values. Indians should be imparted a compulsory moral education classes instead of other classes.

There are no sex education textbooks at school level. One chapter on human reproductive system is given. It only explains the process of reproduction and body organs.

I am very serious about sex education.
People are getting more liberal and progressive, which means their kids will grow up with a lot of freedom. Parents dont like to beat their kids or scare them now a days, Parents are themselves ok with kids having boyfriends and girlfriends.
parents are also not available at home like before, most of them work, unlike before. Not to mention Bollywood, Hollywood and Internet;; Which automatically means, kids are living in a highly sexualized environment with all the freedoms at their disposal. The government nor the parents are going to be able to control this, they cant

This is a recipe for disaster, Therefore the only option is a frank and open discussion on sex,
Sex Education is a must for Teens

I can tell you the amount of sexual activity has increased manifold

there is only one chapter on human reproductive system. And it was favourite of my whole class. When teaches used to say take out your book and start reading, surprisingly everyone used to read the chapter.

I am not sure what kids are studying in the name of "sex education" today but since I had science in 11,12 class with Biology+ Maths combo I can tell a bit.

There was a chapter about human reproduction and it gave a very good scientific detail of human sexual organs and their functions.Their was detailed pics of sex organs all the veins level nitty bitty details. There were good details of sperms,Mensuration Cycle etc etc as well. The content was excellent but there was no mention of condoms but there was enough details of AIDS etc. The Bio teacher used to simply finish the chapter in a hurry. Our counterparts in Commerce and Arts used to ask us to lend the Bio books to read it. No Kamasutra type graphics in the book and no horny stuff at all .Though it's other thing that we had the small horny books handy in our bags to increase our "knowledge". :D

Interestingly Congress has the same views before but just because BJP said something they are happy to jump and then all those super liberal types like Puja Bedis ets are called in tv debates.

So the thing important is which "content" is being taught and "how".

i jut wanted to know which schools gave sex education india.Atleast what i know is in maharashtra noone schools provide any kind of sec education

Second thing what wrong with having vulgarity part out of it

I hard a debate in past in mahrashtra one person said that UN was offering stuff which says "that sex should be enjoyed and and one should curb it this doesnt goes with Indian values"

He said that Indian should make their own books and stuffs rather then depending on western stuff but then who has time specially politicnas who make huge cry in assemblies on one day and on another watch porn on tablet provided them in same assembly

Last and but not least if he so much insecure then he his health minister , should take responsibilty and make one educational sex video got it approved and then distribute it to states , schools and upload it on net rather then giving lecturing us or giving some thrash interviews to news traders.

Here two important things in sex edu
1)Boys .......... in today tech world every boy watches&discuss it openly (Majority)
2)Girls ..............few girls knows about it

So the problem with sex edu is parents uncomfortable,if i have a child i too but i don't have any problem teacher teach them

But in reality it is stupid discussion include sex edu or not,u don't have a choice teach kids safe sex else they can learn from dirty sites/frnds

I saw few girls (in my locality) videos in po** sites & Abortions so better wake up .............its 21st century the number is min today but studily growing

I have completed my school education just recently. I was in one of those good modern english schools. I can tell you with authority that there was no such thing as sex-education. I don't know what Harsh Vardhan wants to ban when there is no such thing. Only in very rare schools they must be having this i guess.
Also sex-education doesn't mean the methods to have sex. Guys know it without teaching, everybody watches porn. Sex-education basically means bodily awareness.
