Tarmak007 -- A bold blog on Indian defence: Wake up, Mr Antony!

With so many scams unearthed during his tenure as India's defence minister, may be it's time for Arakkaparambil Kurian Antony to do some serious thinking. Antony always managed to get away 'very mysteriously' 'despite being haunted by some of the worst-hit scams during his tenure. He has always played to the gallery with statements like: "I will not allow corruption; no guilty person will be spared; I will not tolerate corruption in defence deals."

May be it's time for India's cleanest politician to realize that he is heading a ministry that's stinking of scams, all the time. His supporters might argue that why should he bear the brunt, when he has done nothing and his hands are clean. After all, he has punished the guilty in all scams and ordered probe(s) whenever he smelt something fishy -- his men would argue!
But, Antony's detractors would sight the latest chopper scam probe as a classic example of a delayed decision. India today needs a vibrant defence minister who can act on time and inspire its forces, they would argue.
If Antony thinks that he is managing the show perfectly, then may be he must keep this famous saying in mind: "A stitch in time saves nine!"

That's what happens when you put a civilian at the head of defence ministry.
Atleast someone we a basic knowledge of military is acceptable this guy should have been minister of sports or whatever not handling serious ministerial post.

You can't clean corruption in defense sector by blaming a single person. It is same in most of the sectors but detailed info about military equipment deals do not surface in public domain. Having said that, Antony is a full time politician right now. He wouldn't get time to devote to where it is rightfully required out of his official designation in Government, not party.

One has to understand how a defence equipment is evolved through a GSQR which cannot be changed and then what happens in the MOD and politicians to realise what is going on and who is really behind it all..

Having evaluated the equipment, the remainder is all in the domain of the MOD, CCS and PMO.

Also, Tata is making Sikorsky helicopter bodies, but they are not being allowed any JV. Have you wondered why?

And anyway, why is the Nation losing its patience and faith?

It is because the so called inquiries are fraudulent. The Govt sets the CBI, but control it so that nothing surfaces.

Has any scam every met its logical conclusion even though Senor Anthony maharaj is saying that the case will reach its logical conclusion?

Not an single case has come to its logical conclusion including the Bofors.

The Courts cannot be blamed if shoddy investigations is what is presented before them!

Isn't there a doubt that there is an alleged collusion between the CBI prosecutor and an accused in the 2G scam?

Was the prosecutor acting independently?

Was he acting on someone's behalf?

If so, the system stinks.

It is not that the civilians alone want to know the real truth. The defence personnel are equally, if not more interested in catching the people since it is giving them a bad name!

As far as Anthony is concerned, he would not know the front from the rear of a knife, let alone a weapon system.

He's pathetic as a MoD pretty incompetent and lame by any standards if he has not been able to get rid of middlemen in defence procurement and also streamline procedures then what has he done all these years?

Ever wondered why India is the only country in the world where civilians gets top jobs like NSA, MoD in all other countries people with military if not intelligence background holds these position.

If he cannot devote his time to oversee defence and instead is more keen to save his political career, it is better that he relinquishes his post and be full time in politica.

We cannot have part time chumps oversseing our national security!

I have seen Jagjivan Ram, who was the Defence Minister. He had insight even though he was a full time politician and was never associated with the military. Mrs Indira Gandhi too had great insight.
