I saw that discussion on RSTV that someone posted.

For once, I was constrained to accept Gurudas Dasgupta's contention.

Sad state of affairs, where even the PM has no time for the workers grievances being brought before him.

If the Govt had acted in time and in an equitable manner, thing would not have come to this pass.

I do believe now that we are in a country that is facing rigor mortis.

Regretfully, now I am constrained to believe that India has been sold to the Corporate!

And I am very averse to Communists!

Does this absolve the kind of violence unleashed ? 23 supervisors in hospital with fractures. The GM who died had both legs broken and could not escape when the place was set on fire and was burnt alive.

Companies would think twice before before setting up shop in Haryana.

No it does not, in any way, absolve the mayhem.

Law must take its course, but it won't.

Politics will take over.

Yet, why did it happen is the burning question.

It should not happen elsewhere.

Let us not sell ourselves to project Brand India.

In the US too such rigid work culture and low pays are not acceptable!

And since we are slaves to the 'Western ways', let us at least emulate them here too!

Caste slur did not trigger violence at Maruti's Manesar plant: Probe - The Times of India

The initial probe into Maruti violence at Manesar has rejected the claim of workers' union that it was triggered by a casteist slur.

NEW DELHI: Preliminary findings into the violence at the Maruti's Manesar plant has disproved the Maruti Suzuki Workers Union's allegations that the mob fury was triggered by "casteist comments" allegedly made by a supervisor against a dalit worker.

Investigators claimed that the supervisor, Sangram Singh, was also a dalit like his alleged victim, permanent worker Jiyalal, and therefore could not have made abusive comments against him.

MSWU had alleged the casteist remark made against Jiyalal was "pre-meditated by the management". Labour officers, who rushed to the spot soon after the dispute, have reported to Haryana government that Jiyalal had slapped Singh during tea time, around 9am. The matter was reported to the company's human resource (HR) department almost immediately.

"Tension flared up when the management refused to immediately reinstate Jiyalal, who had been suspended for slapping Sangram Singh. The management gave in to the workers' sustained pressure, but on the condition that the reinstatement would be done on Friday after he gave an undertaking to behave well. However, the workers insisted on immediate reinstatement," said a labour department official.

Though the Maruti management has been claiming that the attack was pre-planned and targeted towards senior employees, investigators are working on all possible angles. "Interrogation of the arrested persons could reveal the reasons behind the brutal attack. But we suspect that unresolved demands of the union that was submitted to the management on April 18 could have triggered the mob fury," said one of Haryana government sources.

Some of the demands that the union had put forth were higher wages, an increase in HR allowance and making all contract labourers at the plant permanent employees. "There had been several rounds of meeting — about 25 since last October. The union's suspicion of the management derailing the talks could have been one of the reasons behind the workers going amok," said one of the investigators.

Even MSWU had alleged that the management had done its "utmost to derail the process" since long and was trying to break the "back of the spirit of unity of the workers" and the "legitimacy of the union".

Senior district administration officials, who have been keeping an eye on the unfolding event and probe, said that one of the reasons of the mob setting the office on fire could be that they had realized that their acts of violence were captured in CCTV cameras. "There is an obvious suspicion that they wanted to destroy the evidence so that they would not be caught by police," said an official.

I know that people start off with slightly exaggerated demands for bargaining, but this seems absurd.

Maruti workers want lakh a month - Hindustan Times

Consider this: A five-fold increase in basic salary, a monthly conveyance allowance of more than Rs. 10,000, a laundry allowance of Rs. 3,000 and a gift with every new car launch. These and a house for everybody and cheaper home loans for those who want to build their own houses were some of the demands the Maruti Suzuki India Workers' Union at Manesar placed before the management on April 18.

If implemented, a permanent worker of Maruti Suzuki India would have seen a four-fold hike in his gross pay to more than Rs. 1 lakh a month.

Currently, a permanent worker at Manesar gets a basic pay of Rs. 5,100, plus Rs. 1,775 for conveyance and Rs. 260 for laundry. With house rent allowance, bonuses and incentives, the gross pay comes to about Rs. 23,350 a month.
...

The demands do not end with salary hikes. The union also wanted the number of sick and casual leaves to be doubled, besides 35 days of privilege leave, instead of 20 — altogether 75 days of leave in a year.

If the weekly holiday on Sunday, national holidays and two weeks of mandatory factory shutdown are taken into account, the number of leaves swells to over 150 days a year. In effect, a worker at Manesar would be working every alternate day.

Maruti Suzuki seeks help of astrologer to correct vaastu at Manesar plant

Maruti Suzuki seeks help of astrologer to correct vaastu at Manesar plant

BANGALORE: Rattled by the violence at Manesar plant, Japanese car maker Maruti Suzuki has sought the help of a vedic astrologer from Bangalore to help sort out the vaastu at the Haryana unit.

Confirming that he has been invited by the company, astrologer Deivajna K N Somayaji told TOI: "The corrections must be done to ensure that the problem does not spread to other units. I have held a few meetings with the company officials." Somayaji started his assignment on Sunday and is likely to visit the Manesar plant—17 km from Gurgaon—several times to complete the task. Maruti did not respond to TOI's questions on the issue.

A section of the sprawling 600 acre of land on which the plant has been constructed is said to have once served as a burial ground. Three temples, which existed at the site, were razed to set up the plant. However , there was no confirmation of this from Maruti officials.
