Veitnam says more Indian warships are welcome to its ports

New Delhi, Sep 2(ANI): Vietnam has said that defence cooperation with India has been going since 1980s and Indian warships are most welcome to its ports.

Talking exclusively to ANI, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Tan said: "India and Vietnam have close defence cooperation since early 1980s. Indian Warships have been visiting Vietnam since then. We think that such cooperation is now strengthened and developing rapidly."
"We welcome Indian ships to our ports," Tan added.

Vietnamese envoy was reacting to a report published in London-based Financial Times, which said that a Chinese warship confronted INS Airavat shortly after it left Vietnamese waters in late July in the South China Sea.
Although Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Defence Ministry have rejected the reports ofonfrontation, but India confirmed that its warship was contacted on open radio channel by a caller identifying himself as the "Chinese Navy" stating that "you are entering Chinese waters".

However, no ship or aircraft was visible from INS Airavat, which proceeded on her onward journey as scheduled, according to a MEA statement.

Vietnamese envoy further said that the reported incident will have no effect on the defence ties between India and Veitnam and more warships are expected to visit its ports.

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna will be visiting Vietnam later this month, while Vietnamese President will be coming to India in October.

China is getting more and more assertive and is hardening its position on South China sea which it claims top be its waters. By Naveen Kapoor (ANI)

This is good news. Now, if only we could have this sort of cooperation with South Korea and Japan......

Where the hell are our Carriers when we need them. Either way we need to see beyond the dead lock with China, i think there are better ways to handle China than be more agressive and keep uping the anti.

We only have 1 Aircraft carrier as of now that also without Modern 4th Generation Aircraft fighter.

In Next 3 Years, We will be inducting 3 Destroyers (Kolkatta Class), 4 Frigates (1 Shivalik, 3 Talwar) and 2 Aircraft carrier (Vikramaditya, Vikrant - Both with MIG 29+ some Tejas MK1). Then our Navy will be bit more strong and we can use some warships and a carrier for power-play elsewhere if needed.

Vikrant was decommissioned in 1997.

Our carriers offer little to project power.

We need super carriers to scare other countries.

Conventional carriers would be sufficient deterrent against the Chinese in South China Sea. super Carriers would be required if were to project power in, say.... the Americas.

No mate, 10-15 Mig-29s wont do any good. Chinese will bring them down in few hours.

Super carrier with 50+ jets and Awacs will make a huge impact.

Agreed. But still the conventional ones would act as a "deterrent".

Carrier is important for Fire Power-Play. We will add 2 more in 3 years. Our 2nd IACC (INS Vishal will be close to Super Carrier). Most likely it will operate 30-40 F-35/Rafale/typhoon (Not yet decided). But it will be operational by 2019-2020 only.

But We need Submarines Specially Nuclear Submarine (Ballistic Missile). It's not only Offensive but it also gives India 2nd Strike Capability. By 2020, We will have 3 BM submarine (INS Arihant). It will equipped with K-15,4,5 (1,000-5,000 KM). Once, We will have 3 SLBM and 3 Aircraft carrier. Then we will have strong depth.

Although, we are improving our Navy. But still, It's bit slow. We need some more private company like L&T hazira, ABG shipyad, etc. to start working for our need. As of now, We lack Submarines. We are under-strength.

I'm pretty sure Vishal would be a 65000 Ton conventional carrier that would operate NLCA Mk-2.

Do British and French Carriers project power or just show pieces? Only the US has super carriers (100,000 tons category).
Once we have a 3-4 carrier force. even with two in place with Vikramaditya and IAC I, we will have enough to project power at least in South East Asia. Couple of squads of MiG 29s will be good enough there. But our intentions are not aggressive like the Chinese. We are developing our relations for mutual benefit and also to form a kind of alliance or the basis of it right now to face any future challenge from the Chinese in the region.

In war time i'd prefer it near our land than near china.
In War time, I'd want diesel and nuclear subs swarming the South China sea.

I wonder why English are building two super carriers , French are going to build QE class catobar version and Russians also said that they ll go for bigger carriers.

whatever our intentions are our Vikrant and Vikramaditya dont have the fire power to match china in china sea.
