Then perhaps its the future course that US state department wants to take to appease Pakistan. People like Christine Fair reflect the views of the US establishment.

Anti-India speech? No, he just point out that india has its own share in the dirty game.
He is not even upset about this fact, americans know that india is aiming at Pakistan instead of US!
India is not angel, she does what others do: protecting her interest with whatever she has.

India was never anti-U.S. or anti any country, with the sole exception of Pakistan. If there was animosity between India and the United States in the past, the reasons lie squarely on the opportunistic U.S. foreign policy and the unwillingness of America to treat India as an equal partner following our Independence. Nehru was initially quite pro-U.S./West. In fact, one of Nehru's very first foreign trips during his tenure as P.M. was to the U.S. in 1949. However, Jinnah was also pro-West, even more so than Nehru, and the West (U.S. in particular) was keen on developing close ties with Pakistan due to its key strategic position with regards to the U.S.S.R. India during this time was simply not important enough for the West or U.S. to risk their relationship with Pakistan, and any "alliance" between India and the West would have been a highly unequal one; our diplomatic and strategic options with regards to Pakistan would have been highly limited, our regional influence restricted, and our national sovereignty likely compromised. What really killed any chances of a close Indo-U.S. alliance was the American decision to furnish Pakistan with military aid and high-end military equipment (F-86 fighter jets, Patton tanks, etc.) in 1954. From the late 50s on, we started leaning increasingly towards the U.S.S.R, not because of some ideological reasons but because it suited our national interests.

Here is an interesting newspaper article from 1949: 17 Oct 1949 - NEHRU VISIT A "HIT' U.S. policy veers to India a...

With john kerry already there, and now chuck being appointed, it's would be interesting to see how we manage the things. With US/NATO moving out in an year and pro-pakis getting 2 important positions in US, pakis would be jumping in joy. Hopefully our netas and babus show some spine (tough ask:( :(:( ).

One way to stick it up their hind would be to make modi pm. The us have snubbed, even assassinated many democratically elected leaders. And modi has a ban. It will be massive pile of shit on their face when they remove the ban and invite him.

US distances itself from Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel's anti-India comments

New Delhi: The US has distanced itself from its Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel's stand that India is building a second front in Afghanistan. In a statement, the US embassy said, "The US govt has distanced itself from the views that Chuck Hagel appeared to have held in 2011. The US embassy has has reaffirmed that India is a valued partner in Afghanistan. The United States strongly supports the positive role India continues to play in Afghanistan. We continue to support India's bilateral assistance program with Afghanistan, its leadership on private sector investment there, & promoting regional economic integration and linkages."

India's embassy in Washington DC has put out a statement rejecting Hagel's allegations that India has over the years financed problems for Pakistan. "Such comments are contrary to the reality of India's unbounded dedication to the welfare of the Afghan people. India's commitment to a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan is unwavering," the Indian Embassy said in its statement.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari said, "India requires no explanation from anyone. We have had constructive engagement in Afghanistan."

The BJP asked the government to exert diplomatic pressure on Washington for unconditional withdrawal of his statement. The statement given by Hagel that India has financed problems in Pakistan is "outlandish, bizarre and baseless," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

US President Barack Obama's choice Chuck Hagel has been confirmed as the new US Secretary of Defence. Hagel was in the news recently for his allegations that India has over the years financed problems for Pakistan. But sources say the remarks, made in 2011, may be an attempt by critics to project him as unsuitable for the job.

But Hagel's remarks could also embarrass Obama because they are in sharp contrast to US policy which views India's role in Afghanistan positively.

A video containing these remarks from an unreleased speech of Hagel at Oklahoma's Cameron University in 2011 was uploaded by Washington Free Beacon. Hagel, during the speech said, "India for some time has always used Afghanistan as a second front, and India has over the years financed problems for Pakistan on that side of the border".

"And you can carry that into many dimensions, the point being [that] the tense, fragmented relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been there for many, many years," Hagel said.

Hagel and rest of US establishment is trying pleasing Pakistan.

This is a deliberate leak by Obama administration since the end game has been already settled between all the players excluding India (though few symbolic diplomatic lip service crumbs will be thrown at us).

USA is building tactical command centre at Karachi Airport therefore such Pakistan pleasing comments were supposed to be made. Not to mention their biggest embassy and transit rout for an early exit.

All they did, dug present defence minister's (defence secretary) opinion he made against India and leaked it. It will work both ways Indians with their usual over analytical skills now will try to give benefit of doubt to US administration on the other hand Pakistani will be given a free go to attack India and twist and doctor his statement like they have been always doing it.

We already know loud mouth Pakistani are out today to add many words like terrorism into his statement.

Like @Singh; said many moons ago that India know USA can not abandon Pakistan.

Why an asset like Pakistan be abandoned by USA who loves easy sell of proxies; is a question pro USA Indians must ask to themselves.
