Infact Donald Rumsfeld the US defence secretary in Gulf war 2
was meeting Saddam Hussain when Iran Iraq war was going on in the Eighties

What is however NOT very well known is that US LET Saddam Live after
Gulf War 1

It is because Saudi Arabia said that with Saddam gone the Shias would gain power in Iraq
which will strenghten Iran

And that is what exactly happened after Saddam was executed after Gulf war 2

I am not able to remember either the book namee or author name. It was book written in early 90's (post GW-1). Which described in detail how west(esp france early on) and later on US built the arms industry in iraq. How they supplied arms etc. Very nice/detailed book. Hopefully if i remember it, will post the name of book, author.

What I do not understand is why Reagan knew Iraq had chemical weapons in 1983, but Bush lied when he said Saddam had them to justify invading that country when he was president?

gulf war 1 happened because west had said to saddam that they would turn blind eye to kuwait, so after doing the bidding of west against iran saddam thought kuwait would be his reward but he was deceived.
