Five US citizens including a 25 year old Diplomat Ms. Anne Smedinghoff were killed in the Qalat, the capital of Zabul province when a suicide car bomb took the convoy apart.
Smedinghoff eagerly wanted to be on the job in Afghanistan and had volunteered for that specific mission.
In the figures release till now the dead include 2 civilians and three US soldiers.

Anne Smedinghoff, 25, died in a bomb attack Saturday while delivering donated books to a new school in Zabul Province.

Excerpts :

Ms. Smedinghoff joined the Foreign Service three years ago, straight out of Johns Hopkins University, and moved to Kabul in July. Being locked in the embassy compound, though it kept her largely safe from suicide bombers and rocket attacks, was not for her, her family and friends said. She longed to be out among Afghans, helping to ease the tumult of their lives.

On Saturday, Ms. Smedinghoff, 25, got her chance. She joined a delegation accompanying the governor of Zabul Province to inaugurate a new school in Qalat, the provincial capital. She was to help deliver donated books.

At 11 a.m., a suicide car bomber detonated explosives that ripped into the convoy, killing Ms. Smedinghoff and four other Americans — a civilian and three soldiers — in the deadliest day for Americans in Afghanistan this year. The names of the other four victims had not been released Sunday night.

The attack reverberated from Afghanistan to Ms. Smedinghoff's family home in the Chicago suburb of River Forest, Ill. In her honor, friends and relatives this weekend replaced their profile photos on Facebook with a picture of a black ribbon embossed with the State Department seal.

its a serious blow for America - Taliban peace deal.now i am seriously thinking about ISI hand in this attack.similar trained attack also occurred on Indian embassy leading to death of an Indian diplomat few years ago.can't rule out Pakistan's hand
2008 Indian embassy bombing in Kabul - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

few days after change in American policy towards Pakistan for sale of hi-tech military equipment this attack occurred.this will surely strain that deal process
any assumptions???

You dream. What repercussions followed the killing of the American ambassador in Benghazi? Hillary went to Congress and screamed, "What difference does it
make?"

my quotes are specifically with directed to Pakistan.and if your statements are in reference to Pakistan, then more or less we should say America has given a Unconditional surrender in Geo-political war in Afghanistan to Pakistan.no offense,America seems to get out of Afghan as early and with minimal causalities as possible

only god should help Afghanistan after America withdrawal

Your post said an attack on diplomats would bring repercussions and you specifically said that might be an affect on US-Pak arms deal. I still say Obama doesn't care about US diplomats being killed by Muslims.

Still nothing from Benghazi, let alone repercussions.

White House Continues To Stonewall Public On Benghazi Attack - Investors.com
More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack.

Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn't help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible?

Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered.

Information detailing what happened before, during and after the attack on the Benghazi consulate has been kept from the American people.

The identities of those Americans who were there, including those who were wounded, has been kept from congressional investigators who have a constitutional responsibility to oversee U.S. foreign policy in situations exactly like this. Besides the ambassador, three other Americans died in the terrorist assault.

President Barack Obama and his entourage appear to believe there is nothing wrong with presenting false information to the American people. At a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared in an agitated tone that it didn't matter what had been said about the attack in the days after it took place.

For more than a week, high-level officials had deliberately misinformed the American people about the circumstance surrounding the deadly attack launched on the anniversary of 9/11.

Over and over, the American people and the world were told that the terrorist attack had only been a demonstration that had gotten out of control. Protesters had supposedly been enraged by an amateur video clip disparaging of Muhammad and then killed our ambassador. That story was a lie, and those who repeated it knew it was a lie.

In answer to Secretary Clinton's question of what difference did that false story make; importantly, the terrorists know the difference.

The steely-eyed, organized assassins know what they did and why. And they know they have gotten away with it.

They believe that we were (and still are) afraid to confront them. Our inaction emboldens them and others like them.

It is widely believed, for example, that some of those involved in the Benghazi attack were also involved in the attack on the gas plant in Algeria in January where 37 hostages were killed, including three Americans.

The false story of the Benghazi attack put out by the administration downplayed the magnitude of the radical Islamist threat that still faces our country. Americans will stand strong and do what they must with courage in the face of danger, if their leaders will be honest with them about the danger.

The Benghazi attack was proof that the death of Osama bin Laden did not end the Islamist jihad against the U.S. as President Obama wanted us to believe.

The most perplexing aspect of this case is the condescending attitude shown by administration spokespeople when questioned about withholding information from Congress or providing misinformation.

The administration needs to provide the names of those Americans who were in Benghazi and let them tell what happened.

As Sen. Lindsey Graham has revealed, these witnesses have been told not to talk to Congress. Remember how open President Obama promised his administration would be?

What is the motive behind this attempt to deceive the American people?

Why did we not send assistance to our ambassador when he and his colleagues were under attack by a force armed with machine guns, rockets and mortars?

Pleas for help were ignored that bloody night. Did the White House fear that a failed rescue mission would impact the upcoming election? Downplaying the terrorist element in the death of our ambassador would minimize the potential political damage.

So is this all about covering up the motive for a decision that put the election ahead of saving American lives and vigilance in the face of continuing Islamist terrorism?

The incident is still pushed under the rug to avoid the public backlash that would occur if the facts were known. Even worse, the Benghazi killers have never been brought to justice.

The issue needs to be laid on the table for all to see. If the Obama administration is not forthcoming with answers to the questions Congress has asked, subpoenas should be issued to compel testimony. And if there are contradictions found in previous testimony, then charges of perjury should be pursued.

This case is worse than Watergate. No one died as a result of those high level political shenanigans. This cover-up and stonewalling is about the terrorist murder of American heroes. The American public has a right to know the facts.

You are exactly right. Carter was US President in 1979, and after the failure of Operation Eagle Claw <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Eagle_Claw>, he was left with negotiation as the only option, apparently.

For too long US has been dragging along....i guess after 2014 when they leave Afghanistan...
Worst time in history for pakistan will start.....
or if US govt is now mute or coward, will not do anything to make sure pakistan pays for its deed during war against terror...
