US defense secretary Ashton Carter in India, to meet PM Modi

IANS New Delhi, June 2, 2015

Leading a high-level delegation, US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter arrived in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday on a three-day visit to India.

In Visakhapatnam, Carter visited the Eastern Naval Command. He was scheduled to arrive in Delhi later in the day and was likely to call upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

He will also meet Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

This is Carter's first visit to India as secretary of defense.

He had earlier visited India in September 2013 and July 2012 as deputy secretary of defense when he was the main architect of the India-US Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) and advocated support for treating India at par with the closest partners of the US in terms of technology transfer, collaborative ventures and expedited-approval process for licences.

U.S. bears arms in India-China rivalry

By Philip Ewing and Jen Judson

6/2/15 9:17 PM EDT

Defense Secretary Ash Carter is expected to sign agreements with India to bring U.S. defense companies closer to helping the Indian navy build its own aircraft carrier and to encourage cooperation on jet engines — an effort to influence what could be the defining rivalry of the 21st century, between India and China.

Carter made the first-ever visit of an American defense chief to a major Indian naval base and is holding high-level meetings in New Delhi focused on what the Pentagon calls “maritime security cooperation”........

We need to go for Hybrid Aircraft carrier, one with a STOBAR and EMALs just in case US refuse to co operate in critical times.

Or keep the Ramp separately ready to integrate if EMALs do not work !

There is a new ten year defense pact that will be signed between India and USA .
Does this mean India's non aligned days are over ??? ( to me it does).
Its more like days of un-decisiveness as we frame defence pacts with the US and at the same time proclaim that Russia is our preferred partner.
