A relative of mine knows a person who wants to change his religion from muslim to hindu .

However , the brahmins and he himself are confused about one fact--which caste would he belong to after conversion ??

Due to this his conversion is as yet pending.....

Can anyone on DFI give an answer ??

I wonder if anyone can convert to Hinduism.

Of course, nowadays, it is being done, and I think through Arya Samaj procedures.

I am not too sure that Arya Samaj believes in caste.

Believe me, other religions in India notably Sikhism and christianity have the same caste as that of the Hindus ..for example we have christian nadars, christian thevars etc in TN..they would go to that caste itself..Sikhs also have Jats, Rajputs etc..

Maybe in Muslims some might not have an equivalent caste..on that count, I too am confused.

tell him to go to some learned brahmin, also, the caste doesn't matter, better yet, tell him to join ISKCON and after the conversion, caste wont be an issue

Institutional casteism doesn't exist, but casteism as a social feeling definitely still exists. That is something which government cannot simply stamp out; it will take a lot of time before India is really free from casteism.

That is just baseless, similarly hindus are a victims in kashmir bcoz ppl. have hatred for Hindus, and who cares what other think of you, the end line is you are getting benefits.... when 50% of seats are especially reserved for you , even if get 10%, I dont see any reason why anyone should complain

What is his profession? Going by that I can tell you (hopefully with no mistakes) which Varna he should belong to. Caste - well, that is a non-sequitur.

It's like asking, the Sun rises from the East, so should I eat mangoes or oranges? In other words, Caste has nothing to do with Hinduism.

Sorry for being metaphorical;, but that is just my reply.

What are you talking about? What does anti-Hindu hatred in Kashmir have to do with casteism?

It is a good thing that seats are reserved for low-caste persons, but these reservations should be made on the basis of socioeconomic status rather than just caste.

    Let me ask another question.

In many government forms, one is asked the religion and caste. Is it permissible to type religion = Hindu and Caste = N/A/Nil/None?

If that is permissible, there is no discussion here. He can become a Hindu with no caste.

Varna is a bigger evil since caste is just a sub-section of Varna.
