Ruling out any tie-up ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh said on Friday the party would go alone in the polls where it will highlight issues of corruption and poor law and order in the state.
The people of Uttar Pradesh want to be relieved of the Mayawati government, and the BJP is responding to their wishes, he told a press conference during 'Jan Swabhiman Yatra'.
The former state chief minister also flayed the ruling BSP government for "spending people's money" on constructing statues and parks which he said would not uplift dalits.
He said his yatra was aimed at educating people about the need for removing governments responsible for rampant corruption.
BJP was against corruption and gave moral support to Anna Hazare but did not approve of some of his methods, Singh said.
In reply to a question on who between Advani and Modi would be the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP in 2014, he said the matter was an internal issue of the party and a unanimous decision would be taken in this regard at the right time.
Earlier, addressing a public meeting on Thursday, Singh claimed that more people had been killed by police bullets in UP than even in Jammu and Kashmir.

A very good political move. BJP has failed in getting reliable partners in UP. Go it alone is not going to harm it but might benefit it.

Can any UP guys tell us the ground situation in the state. It seems like Mayawati is still the most popular leader in UP and but what is the situation what SP and BJP, not to mention Congress since Rahul Gandhi seems to be focusing more on UP than another state.

Mayawati at 1st position - But won't able to win more than 125-150 seats out of 403.

BJP and SP will win around 100 each (+/- 25)

Congress won't able to win 10% of seats also i.e. 40.

    Rest goes to Lokdal, Independents.

Overall, HUNG Assembly most likely as of now.

BJP could have projected a strong OBC leader as their CM candidate. Without that I do not see them winning big. Most probably there would be a hung assembly with Maya winning more seats than others.

If they wanted to provide quota to minorities, they should have either extended the 27% or created a new space.
A 4.5% reduction in hindu OBC quota won't go we with OBCs. I think BJP might gain.

This reminds me of the story of Kalidasa who was cutting the limb of the tree he was sitting on!

All this leave me surprised at the manner where we are making our country chaotic and confused to dole out sops without a thought just to appear populist and for the vote.

I think, All parties supported including BJP allied partner JD(u) except BJP obviously.

SP and RJD silently supported due to 18% & 17% Minority votes respectively in their battlefield.

2012 UP Election is reason, Rift & Difference between OBC and Minority will rise in future.

    Good for BJP.

    That Depends.

HIndu OBC will lose 4.5% reservation due to Muslim quota. SP, RJD, LokDal 90% votes are dependent on OBC + Muslims. Even JD(u) main vote bank is OBC and some % of Muslims. They all supported minority reservation.

BJP Vote also has high % of Hindu OBC Votes. They will raise loss of Hindu OBC issue as they only opposed.

I am not sure of any gain in near term. But anyway, It's not disadvantage for BJP. OBC based parties like SP, JD(u), RJD, LD might face some loss and since BJP is 2nd biggest parties in Hindi belt which gets maximum OBC Votes beside these regional parties. So Advantage only and no loss.

Although No electoral Loss for Congress too, I suppose. Only some more points in BJP arsenal to raise Minority appeasement issue.

Is it Muslim appeasement or Muslim empowerment?

Congress is on pigs back with RLD jumping on the Congress bandwagon!

That is why they are not too concerned of upsetting the OBC boys.

    Are Jats OBC in UP?

Aren't religion based reservations unconstitutional because according to constitution we were not supposed to be discriminated based on religion.
