India has a real social problem with only 88 girls for every 100 boys. I hope GoI does more than just a renaming ceremony to combat this gender imbalance.

It largely is influenced by the mind-set of people. But ~10 years down the line the situation will definitely change.

In most parts of India, both urban and rural, the importance of girl child has gone up. In fact, many parents prefer to have a girl child, especially because the girls remain more attached to their parents.
