    Purchase of Ultra-Light Howitzers

    The Government of India is not purchasing Ultra-Light Howitzers (ULHs) for the Indian Army from BAE Systems, against the Defence Procurement manual 2009.

    Proposal for procurement of Ultra Light Howitzers (ULHs) through FMS route is underway.

    This information was given by Defence Minister Shri AK Antony in a written reply to Shri Jai Prakash Narayan Singh in Rajya Sabha today.

    Dont believe every thing what the govern ment says about defence preparedness In defence lies have to be told to keep the enemy guessing

    This shortage of artillerry is just a hue and cry
    If we can spend 5 billion dollars on C 17 then Will the Army neglect artillerry

    @pankaj nema
    is the shortage of artillery really hue and cry? why then did we have strip the divisions in the plains and on the chinese border of their bofors howitzers just to fight the paki's in 1999 during kargil? do we have any truck mounted howitzer? do we have even a single wheeled howitzer? do we have a single modern self propelled howitzer? what 155mm artillery did we buy after 400 bofors in1987? out of the 400 barely 200 are said to be in working condition. also why did general deepak kapoor say after the 26/11 attacks that the Indian army was not prepared to take on the pak army? as per army and govt reports itself the army is only 50% equipped to fight a modern war.
    the govt does not buy artillery because of shortage of money but because the ghost of the bofors scandal resides in the south block. do you think the congress and madam sonia have forgotten how they lost the 1989 elections just because of the bofors scandal?

    I can't believe it. We've been dancing around this same tree for years, singing the same Bollywood song and hoping for the auntie to give us her 'goodies'.

    When will Mr. Antony realize, that real men take what they want?

    If its true, Its a HUGE blow to IA plans!

    These 155mm ULHs were suppose to replace the 105mm ULHs..

    The delay is due to delay in trials. The US said they do not send machines for trials so you have to lease them. India took time to understand they won't budge and applied for lease of two. Please stop worrying.

    No other country delays it like we do. SO there is definitely a cause of worry. Let's see; we have family members in the military who are going to be facing the flak in case of a war or conflict. Which means they are going to be needing those weapons. And without these weapons, they are simply entering the slaughterhouse like that m*****f**** Nehru sent our soldiers in 1962 without proper weapons. Sorry for the cold and crude language but he deserve nothing short of curses.

    I have for instance, cousin brothers in the military, not in artillery but in other sections. So it is within the entire Indian population's right to get angry at the limitless and hopeless delays that Sarkari Dodos dole out on us.

    would not be IA artillery otherwise.

    Honestly , DRDO will probably have a gun ready before they can actually buy.

    I simply cannot comprehend why IA has so much trouble importing.
