Elbit pushes maritime patrol Hermes 900

Elbit Systems is offering its Hermes 900 unmanned air system (UAS) in a maritime patrol configuration. The Israeli company says the variant has been designed to answer the "full spectrum" of operational needs for a maritime patrol UAS. The type's payload comes in at 350kg (770lb) and includes a maritime radar, electro-optical sensors and electronic surveillance systems. In addition, the Hermes 900 can use its satellite communication links to act as a radio relay and enable an operator to talk to distant vessels. The Israeli manufacturer claims the aerodynamic efficiency of the Hermes 900 enables frequent changes in flight profiles, allowing visual identification of targets, in addition to radar detection. The UAS' satellite communication capability enables it to perform missions at extended ranges up to 1,000nm (1,850km) from shore, Elbit says.

The Demon is a UAV designed by BAE Systems, as part of its "FLAVIIR" project. It has a novel aerodynamic control system which uses engine exhaust and bleed air to provide the aerodynamic forces usually provided by flaps, ailerons and elevators.[1] It has been called the world's first "flapless" plane.

The BAE Systems HERTI is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by the British company BAE Systems. HERTI stands for "High Endurance Rapid Technology Insertion" and was developed in Warton, United Kingdom. The HERTI airframe is based on a motor glider designed by Jaroslaw Janowski of J&AS Aero Design. Its first flight was in December 2004 at the Australian Woomera test range where much of the test flight programme has been undertaken. HERTI was also the first UAV to fly in the UK with the flight being certified by the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority.

Watchkeeper is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for all weather, Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR). Watchkeeper provides enhanced UAV capability that will enable commanders to detect and track targets for long periods, without the need to deploy troops into potentially sensitive or dangerous areas. The system is capable of rapid deployment and operations anywhere in the world and will support the information requirements of all three services.

Defense Tech reports on BAE Systems' CORAX Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV), an unmanned fighter with stealth features whose early models look somewhat like the USA's Darkstar technology demonstrator. The US and British armed forces believe these pilotless planes will play an increasingly vital role on 21st Century battlefields.

The Black Hornet Nano is a military micro unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Prox Dynamics AS of Norway, and in use by the British Army.

The unit measures around 10 × 2.5 cm (4 × 1 in) and provides troops on the ground with local situational awareness. They are small enough to fit in one hand and weigh just over half an ounce (16 g, including batteries). The UAV is equipped with a camera, which gives the operator full-motion video and still images. The aircraft are being used by soldiers from the UK's Brigade Reconnaissance Force at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. Operation Herrick personnel in Afghanistan deploy the Black Hornet from the front line to fly into enemy territory to take video and still images before returning to the operator.

Designed to blend in with the muddy grey walls in Afghanistan, it has been used to look around corners or over walls and other obstacles to identify any hidden dangers and enemy positions. The images are displayed on a small handheld terminal, which can be used by the operator to control the UAV.

As of 25 October 2013, the British Army has 324 Hornet Nanos in service.

A soldier from the Royal Artillery prepares to launch the Desert Hawk 3 UAS (Unmanned Air System) over Salisbury Plain during a training exercise.

Desert Hawk is an extremely versatile and small Unmanned Aerial System designed for discrete operations. It is operated normally at the company level but is equally well employed above and below this. It has an extremely good record proven over the last year and is currently supporting 16 Air Assault Brigade in Afghanistan. It provides an excellent 'over the hill' view for commanders on the ground.

ScanEagle is a small, low-cost, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). It is catapulted off the back of ships and then recovered by flying them back to be caught by a wire extended over the side.

Vega Concern will develop a UAV with a takeoff weight of 200 kg

Vega Concern (part of Rostec State Corporation) is developing a UAV with a takeoff weight of 200 kg for Russian Ministry of Defense. The development should be completed in 2016, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to Vega Director - UAV Programs, Arkady Syroyezhko. "The development will be completed in 2016. The vehicle's preliminary testing will be started this year. It is a military UAV", - he said. Syroyezhko noted that the UAV is being developed by Lutch design bureau. According to Vega's representative, analogues of such UAVs are operated by the army, but they are smaller and have shorter range. "This refers to a UAV with a takeoff weight of 200 kg. Its wingspan is six meters, it is not portable", - the source added.
