I see no compartment of towed Sonar system though, it should have very limited anti-submarine capacity.
maybe no need for its role but still a confusing miss-out. even the very old 037 has towed sonar.

the first batch is for OPV purpose ...there is another ASW varient - 056A(with a helicopter hangar) ...we might be able to see it soon.

10-12 for 2013。

Similar numbers for 2014,2015,2016.。。。。with upgrades and variants emphasizing different roles such as anti-submarine warfare，air-defence etc。

PLAN corvette 582 commissioned today (2/24/2012) marking it as the lead ship of the 056 corvette project to enter service. Given the fact that here are a total of 20 hulls of type 056 under various stage of construction, expect to see more them patrolling around China's "near sea" soon.

Firstly, Type 056 is not a corvette as the thread title says. It's an Off-shore Patrol Vessel, in the same league as the IN's new Saryu class, smaller with less patrol range, but with a better AAW, ASW and ASuW weapons suite.

They fit he definition of corvette as of today. Like the Milgem Class.

La Fayatte has the same tonnage but that was in 1995 it was called a frigate.

For every class, the benchmark weight is increasing.
