Hijacked Russian plane 'lands in Saudi Arabia'
A Russian plane hijacked after taking off from Istanbul today has landed at an airport in the Muslim holy city of Medina in Saudi Arabia, Qatar's al-Jazeera television reported.

An airport official told the television by telephone: "The plane has landed at Prince Mohammed bin Abdel Aziz airport" in Medina.

Earlier a Russian airline spokeswoman said the plane had landed at the nearby Jeddah airport at 18.10 pm Moscow time (1510 GMT).

Russian diplomats in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah declined to comment on the whereabouts of the plane.

The plane, with up to 166 passengers and 12 crew on board, was bound for Moscow but was hijacked shortly after leaving Istanbul by two men armed with daggers.

The men are believed to be of Chechen origin

2 planes stolen in Russia, one lands, the other unaccounted for: TASS news agency

Published on Jun 21, 2015 5:55 PM

TWO small sports aircraft were stolen from Tyumen Oblast in Siberia, Russia, reported the country's TASS news agency.

The first plane, a Yak-52, was forced to land due to technical problems at an airport in the city of Yalutorovsk.

The culprit then took a second plane from the same airfield, a Gardan GY-80-160, and took an accomplice, TASS quoted a source as saying.

The second plane is unaccounted for, it added.

Stolen plane, one unaccounted for. Mischief in progress, that Putin will be blamed for later on.

Latest hijack story from Russia

'Hijacked' Russian private plane takes off without permission, heads in Moscow direction

http://www.ecns.cn/2015/06-22/170079.shtml

A private plane has taken off without permission from Ishim, a town in southern Russia's Tyumen region, and is heading in the direction of Moscow, local media reported Sunday.

Unknown people made unauthorized take-offs early Sunday morning, according to an online statement released by the Investigation Department of the Ural Federal District.

It is impossible to talk about hijack, the Interfax news agency cited the press service of the Investigation Department as saying.

The statement said that at the beginning, those people took a private jet, a Gardan GY-80-160 light aircraft, which collided with engineering facilities in the airfield due to technical failure.

Later, they changed to another private plane, a Yak-52, and are currently heading in the direction of Moscow, the Tass news agency quoted a local law enforcement source as saying.

The Investigation Department of the Ural Federal District has begun investigation and is trying to locate the Yak-52.
