At least 21 people have been killed and 30 injured in a double suicide bomb attack at a camp for displaced people in north-west Pakistan, police said.

The bombs were detonated just minutes apart in the Kacha Pukha camp on the outskirts of the city of Kohat.

The attack hit a crowd of refugees waiting for aid handouts.

More than a million people have been displaced in the tribal belt near the Afghan border, where the Pakistan army is fighting Islamist militants.

The attacks happened at the relief distribution point, said Kohat police chief, Dilawar Khan Bangash.

"Body parts of the suicide bombers have been recovered," Mr Bangash told the AFP news agency.

A campaign of bomb attacks blamed of al-Qaeda, the Taliban and Islamist groups has killed more than 3,200 people in less than three years across Pakistan.

Pakistan is a key ally in Washington's attempt to stabilise neighbouring Afghanistan.

US President Barack Obama has called the tribal belt border area the most dangerous places on Earth.

The bomb blast by burqa clad suicide bombers at a registration centre for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Kacha Pakha area of Kohat has been claimed as targeting Shia Muslims by the Punjabi Taliban outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Alami.

Residing in an Islamic Republic supposedly claimed to have been created to provide a safe haven for the Muslims of the Indian Sub-Continent apparently carries no reasonable guarantee of safety of life and limb if one happens to belong to a minority sect of Islam like the Shiite:
