US should support Taiwan's Freedom Movement. Although average Taiwanese still supports retaining status quo but if they are asked to chose either being part of China or independence they will prefer independence. If it was not for that Nixon today Taiwan would remain as Permanent member of UNO. Both US and India should support Republic of Taiwan.

Taiwan test fires Sky Bow air defense missiles amid tensions with Beijing

Amid aggressive tactics by Chinese military jets, Taiwan stages live fire and air defense exercises on Wednesday

By Keoni Everington, Taiwan News, Staff Writer

Taipei -- Taiwan's military on Wednesday launched a three-day live-fire exercise off the coast of eastern Taiwan to test its air defense capabilities, which will include the test firing of the country's domestically-developed Tien Kung (天弓導彈, Sky Bow) anti-ballistic missile system.

Amid heightened tensions following an unprecedented phone call between President-elect Donald Trump and a Fox News interview in which he questioned the need to adhere to the "one China" policy, Beijing has been ramping up military exercises around Taiwan's periphery. Chinese military aircraft have circled Taiwan and approached, though have not yet breached, Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), on two separate occasions this month.

According to media reports, the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology will be holding a live-fire drill from its Jiupeng Base, in Pingtung County from Dec. 14-16. For the duration of the test, civilian ships and aircraft are strictly prohibited from entering a sea "danger zone" that runs 200 kilometers from Jiuping in the south to Yilan in the north, and airspace above the zone up to 80,000 feet.

Long-range anti-aircraft artillery and missiles are expected to be tested, including Taiwan's domestically developed air defense system - the Sky Bow series of surface-to-air anti-ballistic missiles (ABM). In order to deter Chinese military aircraft from approaching the east coast of Taiwan, the army will strategically deploy three batteries of it's most advanced ABM system - the Sky Bow III - which has a range of 200 kilometers.

Also on Wednesday, the army staged an air defense drill called "Lien Hsiang" (聯翔操演) which used two F-16 Falcon fighter jets to simulate the response of air defenses to a night attack by PLA military aircraft on Hualien Air Force Base.

Then lets start "One Country Akhand Bharat" policy. Whole Pakistan should be included. Some 1000 km square area of China too. The area which I am talking about is about same size as India's north-west. China demands Arunachal Pradesh as south Tibet. But I truly believe that, 1000yrs ago, almost entire west-south region of China belongs to India dynasty. Lets make this aggressive policy which including reclaiming whole Pak and almost west-south area of China. When China demand AP, demand this.

Oh genius, don't pretend to be naive. Do u really believe only INdians are good at doublespeak? GoI houses a "govt in exile" while upholding One China :biggrin2:

Americans have been playing the game for a long time. And Taiwan is a good client and an "unsinkable aircraft carrier" that US won't let go of. Therefore nothing new for Trump to harp the same mantra for max gains. Up the ante first anyway for cutting a good deal.

REVIEW -
Reagon ---- Six Assurances
Bush Sr. --- Bush Approves Major Arms Deal To Taiwan, Defers Aegis Sale
Clinton --- With Arms for Taiwan, U.S. Sends Beijing a signal

The pattern observed is whenever a new President takes over he usually whips up the bravado (in his first term), then cools down pragmatically since there're more headaches ahead to deal with.

So this "bargaining" is older than u and me, and is endless. How could Trump give up this trump card? Chill out and play on. :cruisin2:

The very reson that your government has send a strongly worded protest on just a phone call is reson enough for any one to belive that your government is shaken

China is nothing but a big bully who has few toys i always find china's rise Akin to that imperial Germany and we all know that turned out

The Chinese would do wise not to underestimate Donald Trump he is a wild card that can turn the pacific in to a quagmire for the PLAN

It would be wise for the Chinese to remember the story of imperial japan as well
Mark my words if there is war in the Pacific it will be trrigered by the PRC

China should plan to take Taiwan by force after Trump call, state media says
Global Times says Beijing should ‘punish militarily’ any moves to undermine One China policy – which US president-elect has said he might not uphold

China should plan to take Taiwan by force and make swift preparations for a military incursion, a Communist party-controlled newspaper has said, after US president-elect Donald Trump broke decades of diplomatic protocol in the region.

Before he even assumes the presidency, Trump has called into question the longstanding US foreign policy of maintaining formal relations with Beijing instead of Taiwan, which China considers a breakaway province. He also spoke directly with Taiwan’s president, the first such contact since 1979. Both moves have infuriated China.

One China policy
In response, the Global Times, a state-run tabloid that sometimes reflects views from within the Communist party, said on Thursday that China should rebalance its stance towards Taiwan to “make the use of force as a main option and carefully prepare for it”.

“The Chinese mainland should display its resolution to recover Taiwan by force,” the paper wrote in an editorial. If Taiwan were to declare formal independence, it went on, “the Chinese mainland can in no time punish them militarily”.

China has worked in recent years to deepen trade ties with the democratic, self-governing island with an eye toward an eventual unification. But the ruling Communist party has taken a tougher stance on Taiwan since the election earlier this year of President Tsai Ing-wen, whose party is seen as less keen on cosying up to mainland China.

“The military status quo across the Taiwan Straits needs to be reshaped as a response and punishment to the current administration of [Tsai],” the Global Times said.

Chinese officials have already used less drastic “punishments”, such as limiting the number of mainland tourists to Taiwan and hinting at curtailing investments.

But while Taiwan is already feeling the brunt of China’s rage, the US could be next after Trump moves into the White House.

The president-elect has said he may use the One China policy, under which the US formally recognises Beijing over Taiwan, as a bargaining chip in future negotiations.

“I fully understand the One China policy, but I don’t know why we have to be bound by a One China policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things, including trade,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News.

China swiftly responded to the comments, describing the One China principle as the “political bedrock” of ties between the two countries.

“We urge the incoming US administration and its leaders to fully recognise the sensitivity of the Taiwan question … [and] to properly deal with Taiwan-related matters in a prudent manner so as not to disrupt or damage the overall interests of the bilateral relationship,” China’s foreign ministry said.

The Global Times suggested pointing more missiles at Taiwan as leverage in negotiations with the island.

“If the Chinese mainland won’t pile on more pressure over realising reunification by using force, the chance of peaceful unification will only slip away,” it said. “Peace does not belong to cowards.”

The threat of military action has loomed over Taiwan’s population since the 1950s. In the most dramatic confrontation, China fired missiles into the waters separating it from Taiwan in the run-up to the first free elections in 1996. In response, the US sailed an aircraft carrier through the strait in a show of solidarity.

China warns Trump of damage to bilateral relations
On Wednesday, China’s ambassador to the United States said Beijing would never bargain with Washington over issues involving its national sovereignty or territorial integrity.

Cui Tiankai, speaking to executives of top US companies, said China and the United States needed to work to strengthen their relationship.

“Basic norms of international relations should be observed, not ignored, certainly not be seen as something you can trade off,” he said.

“And indeed, national sovereignty and territorial integrity are not bargaining chips. Absolutely not. I hope everybody would understand that.”

He did not specifically mention Taiwan or Trump’s comments.

I think we should also qustion china:'s narrative
We should not back the one china doctrine in light of Beijing's hostility, refusal to subscribe to One India doctrine, continuing to frustrate India in every field, etc etc.The list is endless.Beijing is our geopolitical foe #1.
Add to that Beijing's rise as preeminent international bully boy not unlike Nazi Germany of 1930s.
Bravo Mr Trump for consigning one china policy to the trashcan where it rightfully belongs.

India too should start raising questions about one china policy. India should play Tibet and Taiwan card properly and to the fullest. India should project Dalai Lama and Tibetans as freedom fighters and should highlight plights of Tibetans and allow Dalai Lama to meet international dignitaries and should take every possible steps internationalize Tibet. We should give recognition to Taiwan as independent country and should start diplomatic relations.

If China is irate so be it and if China is ready to negotiate then ask them to mend ways and support India to declare Azhar Masood a terrorist, facilitate India's NSG entry and stop supporting Pak. If not make matters worst for China.

This is India's logic , China became a Permanent member not because Nixon ,but because China itself.

China fight against USA at North Korea , win.

China have kicked India's ass , because of India's harass.

Vietnam fight against USA , China told USA troops not pass through 17 degree, USA followed , and not convenient , so USA fought for 10 years , and not win.

China and Soviet Union Conflict on Treasure Island, Win

In East Asia , without China's agree , UN resolutions do not enter into force .

So its because you have power so you become a UN Permanent member , but not because you are a UN Permanent member , so you are powerful.
