Australian billionaire Clive Palmer plans to build a 21st-century version of the Titanic with the help of a Chinese shipyard, with the cruise ship's maiden voyage from England to North America scheduled in late 2016.

Palmer said he had invited the Chinese navy to escort Titanic II on its maiden voyage to New York:rofl:, according to an e- mailed statement. The initial pact with China's CSC Jinling Shipyard also includes plans for a fleet of luxury liners.

The original Titanic sank after hitting an iceberg in the Atlantic on April 15, 1912, costing the lives of 1,514 passengers and crew, according to the statement. Mining magnate Palmer, 58, has a fortune of A$5.05 billion ($5.3 billion) and was Australia's fifth-richest person, according to BRW magazine estimates in May.

"It will be every bit as luxurious as the original Titanic but of course it will have state-of-the-art 21st century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems," Palmer said. "The Chinese ship building industry with our assistance wants to be a major player in this market.":thumb:

The Titanic, commissioned by White Star Line, was the largest liner in the world when built at just under 270 meters (886 feet) and 53 meters high.

Palmer is developing coal and iron ore mines in Australia, including the $8 billion China First coal project in Queensland state. Last year, he dropped plans to sell shares in his company Resourcehouse Ltd. in Hong Kong after commodities prices fell.

Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer plans to build Titanic II

BRISBANE, Australia, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer has announced plans to enter the cruise ship business by building a modern version of Titanic, local media reported on Monday.

Palmer said in Brisbane that he had signed a memorandum of understanding with state-owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard to build Titanic II, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported.

Titanic II's maiden voyage from England to North America will take place in late 2016, according to Palmer.

Palmer's new shipping company Blue Star Line Pty Ltd has commissioned CSC Jinling Shipyard to build and co-ordinate the construction of Titanic II in China.

Asked if the ship could sink, Palmer told reporters: "Of course it will sink if you put a hole in it, but it's not going to be designed with a hole."

"It will be designed as a modern ship with all the technology to ensure that doesn't happen," he said.

"But of course if you are superstitious like you are, you never know what could happen."

The original Titanic sank in the North Atlantic after hitting an iceberg on April 15, 1912.

now if its automobile than its quality is not that great.

Nuts? Grapes? Bitter whine? Such Poetry!

If I were a billionaire I would build this ship.

Flying Cloud (clipper) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Flying Cloud was a clipper ship that set the world's sailing record for the fastest passage between New York and San Francisco, 89 days 8 hours. She held this record for over 100 years, from 1854-1989.[1]

Flying Cloud was the most famous of the clippers built by Donald McKay. She was known for her extremely close race with the Hornet in 1853, for having a woman navigator, Eleanor Creesy, wife of Josiah Perkins Creesy who skippered the Flying Cloud on two record-setting voyages from New York to San Francisco, and for sailing in the Australia and timber trades.

Hull shape would then be more efficient, therefore could not look like the original Titanic.

I know that China is funding Avatar 2, but not that they gonna make Titanic 2. Maybe you know something we dont.

Maybe your insight in chinese shipbuilding can be shared with foreign companies. It must be something wrong consider they are the worlds biggest shipbuilder. Something must be wrong there.

You, sir are a smart guy based on your post. :scared2:

This ass is just building up on the hype. It will just be another luxury liner which he will name Titanic II and have people line up to see and sail the reborn ship at ten times the normal price. Well! He is smart, no doubt about that.
