Pak has more nuke weapons than India: Report
ref; Pak has more nuke weapons than India: Report

Press Trust of India, Tuesday November 17, 2009, Washington

Pakistan is estimated to have more nuclear warheads than India and the two Asian neighbours along with China are increasing their arsenals and deploying weapons at more sites, two eminent American nuclear experts have said.

While Pakistan is estimated to possess 70-90 nuclear weapons, India is believed to have 60-80, claims Robert S Norris and Hans M Kristensen in their latest article 'Nuclear Notebook: Worldwide deployments of nuclear weapons, 2009'.

The article published in the latest issue of 'Bulletin of the Atomic Science' claimed that Beijing, Islamabad, and New Delhi are quantitatively and qualitatively increasing their arsenals and deploying weapons at more sites, yet the locations are difficult to pinpoint.

For example, no reliable public information exists on where Pakistan or India produces its nuclear weapons, it said.

"Whereas many of the Chinese bases are known, this is not the case in Pakistan and India, where we have found no credible information that identifies permanent nuclear weapons storage locations," they said.

"Pakistan's nuclear weapons are not believed to be fully operational under normal circumstances, India is thought to store its nuclear warheads and bombs in central storage locations rather than on bases with operational forces. But, since all three countries are expanding their arsenals, new bases and storage sites probably are under construction," the two nuclear experts said.

It seems the authors have their knickers in a twist... the article is self-contradictory in many ways...

First they claim that "they have no credible information about the arsenals of India and Pakistan" and yet they go onto make a prediction about the number of warheads that both countries have...

if the goi is taking it easy and getting themselves "committed " to all sorts of inappropriate disarmamaent regimes , then these "surprises" which are not surprising at all are in the pipeline.

Does it really matter who will drop 80 bombs and who will drop 90 ?
Also Pakistan also has far fewer cities than India i.e the Indian strategic force has fewer targets on it's western border.

India has enough plutonium to make 700 nuclear warheads if needed this is from a military source:

    www.scribd.com/doc/19725054/India-and-Weapons-of-Mass-Destruct-Ions
    nuclearweaponarchive.org/India/IndiaArsenal.html ·

This unsafeguarded quantity could be used to manufacture roughly 1000 nuclear weapons, if India so chose (which would give it the third largest arsenal in the world, behind only the U.S. and Russia).

Also our unguarded FBR are going to pump out tons more in the future.

I was replying in the spirit of the article(indo-pak nuclear comparison) but anyways it will take only one bomb for the shit to hit the fan. also with respect to china do you think the Chinese are ready to lose shanghai or Beijing, are we for that matter ready to lose Mumbai or even Patna?

To achieve MAD we need to have credible minimum level of deterrence... now, with questions being raised even about Pokhran II, I am seriously beginning to doubt we have that...

thank you for including the remark that the figures are from a military source implying that technically it can be done.

the bottleneck therefore are the decision-makers in goi's "parliamentary houses" and NOT the capability of the nation's military.

Neither India nor china or any country in the world(except the U.S and Russia) have anything close to the no's of nuclear weapons required for a credible MAD system.

anyways are thermonuclear weapons that important; will it really matter to man living in Beijing whether the has the Damocles sword of a fission or a fusion bomb hanging over his city?

We have enough plutonium for 1000 nukes from a military source whose links i gave in my previous post and we have 4 Fast breeder reactors unguarded on our military side which will pump out plutonium by the ton in the not to distant future, this article is a joke but it is always good for us to have an excuse to make the 1000's of warheads we should make.

I have read reports from some top nuke guy that India has enough fissile material to make 2000 bombs!!! People keep coming up with all kinds of estimates. Whats the big deal if India has 10 less than pakistan or 100 more than Pakistan? Even with a 100 more, we are scared of their 90. And china is afraid of our 100 odd nukes.

People stop reacting to such reports.

“In private, he (Clinton) disclosed, Indian officials spoke of knowing roughly how many nuclear bombs the Pakistanis possessed, from which they calculated that a doomsday nuclear volley would kill 300 to 500 million Indians while annihilating all 120 million Pakistanis. The Indians would thus claim “victory” on the strength of several hundred million countrymen they figured would be left over.”

Who cares if Pakistan has a million weapons as long as we are ready to accept any amount of damage, will fire nukes in retaliation regardless and are "unflinching in resolve to cause mindless destruction in order to forestall it"
