It is a burning issue in India, certain people from certain state claim they should get first privilege in their state. Fear of becoming and linguistic minority, tight competition with people from other states fuel this.

Supporters of these movements claim TN is for Tamils first, rest of the Indians second, Maharashtra is for Marathis first, rest of Indians second.

Some well known cases are Maharashtra's MNS and Shiv Sena party, Anti-Hindi agitation of Tamilnadu, and Assam's 1961's expulsion of Bengalis.

So what do you think about it?

Whether Bhumiputra's should be given priority or not is a separate Q.

But what certainly turns off the bhumiputras towards immigrants is not just due to economical reasons but equally important is the socio-cultural reasons. Once immigrants become a sizeable community in a locality or town, they tend to look down at the bhumiputra's language/customs etc etc. This is a even bigger reason which leads to anguish among the bumiputras.

You seem to be a No brainer... There has never been a movement in Tamil Nadu that demanded Only tamils should Live in TN... There are tens of communities that dont speak Tamil as their mother tongue, yet they live in TN with whatever rights Tamils have in TN...

If You want to know more, there are the Naidus and Nayakars of Coimbatore, Erode, Madurai and Theni Districts who speak Telugu as their mother tongue, there are the vokkaligars, Kannada Chetiars of the Erode, Namakkal, Coimbatore and Salem districts who speak Kannada as their mother tongue.. There are the Marathis of the Tanjore district, the Parsis of the Coimbatore, the Sourashtras of the Madurai, The Malayalees of the Nagarkoil and coimbatore, The marwaris of the Chennai, The Telugu speaking people who Live in chennai and around...

TN is more cosmopolitan... Educate yourself before You spill out such things...

The Anti Hindi agitation in TN is against the imposition of Hindi on Tamils... Can you single out a violence case against Hindi speaking people in TN?? or for the matter of fact violence against any other language groups in TN?? Hindi will be opposed in any form in TN. That is our democratic right to oppose.

But you have not mentioned the attacks against Tamils of Karnataka in 1992...

I did not know this, I am not well acquainted with Tamil politics. Just assumed DMK and AIDMK are like Maharashtra Nava Nirman Sena.

How can you even say that? Your baseless allegations have no ground. Before accusing any one know at first well about him.

There is always a general perception about Tamils, because of the Anti Hindi agitations... But You will be amazed to know that, Periyar the founder of Dravidar Kazhagam, which is the mother league for all the Dravidian parties of TN, is not a Tamil Himself... But He is a great social and language reformer and we have accepted him as a Leader and patron... That is How we Tamils live... We accept the best in others and accommodate everybody who has the noble cause...

I think main reasons for which these movements are being fueled up those are

    1) Fear of losing jobs in own state to people of another state

    2) Fear of becoming linguistic minority in own state, Lepchas have been already a minority in Sikkim.

These problems can be solved by

    1) Create more jobs.

    2) Unless you are fluent speaker of that language of respective state, you will be not allowed to settle here, for example if a Bihari wants to permanently settle in KA, he must be fluent in Kannada language.

    3) Regionalize education system on school level, if a kid of Hindi speaking parents go to Marathi medium school in Maharashtra then he will be culturally more close to Marathi language and culture, it will help him to assimilate to Marathi culture. Then Shiv Sena's agenda of Marathis becoming linguistic minority in Maharashtra will not be valid any more. As in this system even a Hindi speaking kid can become Marathi.

You know being a Bharatiya, You can move to whatever place in the country and engage in your Profession but the problem comes different states are not in Unison.

You have states like UP, where Mulayam and His Clan, Mayavati and her Clan regularly rape the State forcing many people to Migrate Elsewhere.

You have states like Kerala, where Communism and Cancergress who belong to Anti-Development and do Minority Appeasement regularly,Malayalis have to migrate elsewhere.

You have Banerjee in Bangaal, where she again belongs to Anti-Development and Minority Appeasement Brigade Hence Bangalis have to Move Elsewhere.

Being a Bharatiya is enough but You need these Rogue Leaders of these States to Change,
