The Hindu : Opinion / Lead : A Kamaraj Plan for our times

The writer deals with what the Kamraj plan was and its relevance today to the Congress. Basically, it involved getting senior ministers out of their posts and place them in party positions. And then groom fresh blood in their place! Plans like these should not earn the author wrath from the "High Command" as the original Kamraj plan too had made exception to "The Leader"! An article to understand the times and the events around Nehru's demise.

Now the hitch none of the current crop in congress knows what it takes or has the it to do grossroot party work.Chidambaram is a lawyer,MMS is to put it mildly...not possible.Anthony lost his touches in Kerala-the Devils workshop.Only Shinde has some ability but even that is not enough.Azad cannot do party work he is sick .Ditto with many others. In 1963 majority of pqrtymen were stalwarts of the Independent movement. Now?

People with principles. People with vision. People who were honest. That was 1962.

Leaders with mass appeal could go to bigger leaders and ask them to do things. How many sissies can tell Sonia to do what Kamraj said to Nehru?
