Boy in ISIS video 'recognized' by Toulouse classmates

A boy featured in a chilling Islamic State propaganda video showing the killing of a Palestinian is said to have been recognized by classmates in Toulouse, AFP reported Friday, citing an official.

"Concerning the formal identification of this person, I cannot tell you anything," the schools inspector in the Haute-Garonne district in southern France, Jacques Caillaut, was quoted as saying. "Children from the Vauquelin College have recognized one of their classmates, but we must remain cautious."

According to Caillaut, students at Vauquelin secondary school would have known the boy, who is said to be no older than 12, when he was in primary school. He said the students had seen the video on Wednesday and were provided with counselling.

"There is a child who has not been enrolled at the Vergers (primary) school since March 14, 2014, but I do not have any other details," Caillaut was quoted as saying.

The video claims to show the execution of East Jerusalem Palestinian Muhammad Musallam, 19, who was taken hostage as an alleged Israeli spy three months ago in Syria.

The video, published by the group's Furqan media outlet, showed Musallam sitting in a room wearing an orange jumpsuit, talking about how he had been recruited and trained by the Israeli intelligence service. He says his father and elder brother had encouraged him.

After that, it showed Musallam being escorted to a field and executed by the boy, described by an older, French-speaking fighter as one of the "cubs of the caliphate".

Investigators are looking into whether the latter fighter is related to an extremist who attacked a Jewish school in Toulouse in 2012.

Iraq's top operator has ISIS scared

''ISIS has found its worst nightmare and Iraqi troops have found their savior in the form of the 'Angel of Death.' The thick-bearded, ax-wielding warrior has emerged as the most notable fighter of the Imam Ali brigade, an Iraqi Shi'a militia group.

Only known as Abu Azrael (Angel of Death in Arabic), he is clearly a man of mystery, but according to the Daily Mail, the 40-year-old is believed to be a former university lecturer that left home in June 2014 to join the fight against the Islamic State. He is also rumored to be a former national Taekwondo champion in Iraq. The warrior has quickly grown to become a social media sensation as more and more pictures and videos of Abu Azrael are uploaded.

Most of his pictures on his fan page show him sporting weapons such as his trademark ax and a rifle. Other post include videos of Abu Azrael and fellow fighters relaxing after battle. A popular video depicts Abu Azrael taunting ISIS members via a captured radio. He tells ISIS, over the radio that they have no support or supplies and he is in Tikrit to kick their a*s!''

Tikrit free from ISIS - Iraq PM

BREAKING: Iraq PM declares 'liberation' of Tikrit from IS - Region - World - Ahram Online
Excerpts:
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Tuesday declared the "liberation" of Tikrit from the Islamic State group, after a weeks-long operation that was Baghdad's biggest yet against the jihadists.
...
...
They were able to recapture towns near Tikrit and then surrounded it, but faced difficulties pushing into the city and the operation stalled.
Over the objections of militia forces, a US-led anti-IS coalition began carrying out air strikes in support of the operation, prompting some of the groups to announce they were halting offensive operations.
Iran had been the main foreign backer of the operation for several weeks, and some militiamen accused Washington of attempting to hijack their victory.
In the end, the US carried out air strikes in spite of the presence of militias and the militias took part in the recent fighting despite Washington's role.

Thousands of ISIL Fighters Hit by Terrifying Flesh-Eating Disease

As global powers continue to debate the best way to deal with the threat of the self-proclaimed Islamic State, the terrorist group appears to be suffering its own internal problems. Poor hygiene and pollution has led to the spread of a debilitating disease known as the Rose of Jericho.

As the Islamic State fights for control of large swaths of Syria of Iraq, the group has turned Raqqa into their self-proclaimed capital. But unsanitary living conditions have turned the city into a hotbed for leishmaniasis, also known as the Rose of Jericho.

Spread by female sandflies, the disease is caused by protozoan parasites which cause large, open wounds. Once bitten, red sores on the skin can erupt within weeks, and the virus can eventually attack the body's vital organs. Other symptoms include fever, a low red blood cell count, and an enlarged spleen or liver.

According to the Mirror, over 100,000 cases have been reported, and leishmaniasis can be fatal if not treated.

And most of the infected are, in fact, not being treated. Many fighters, for unspecified reasons, are refusing treatment. But even if they consented, there are few people left in the city capable of handling the outbreak.

While doctors from Medecins Sans Frontieres were initially trying to treat the infected, most have fled Islamic State-controlled territory. Major medical centers have shut down, and the only people left to doctor the fighters are locals with relatively little experience.

Throughout history, the disease has gone by various names, including "white leprosy," "black fever," and eventually, "Jericho buttons," due to an outbreak near the city of Jericho in the early 20th century.

Iran says US drone killed 2 advisers in Iraq

BAGHDAD – Iran's Revolutionary Guard says a U.S. drone strike has killed two of its advisers in Iraq, though the U.S. said Monday it has only struck militants in its campaign against the Islamic State group.

The claim came as negotiators on Monday attempted to reach a deal on Iran's contested nuclear program, which hard-liners in the Islamic Republic have opposed as giving away too much to the West.

The Guard said on its sepahnews.ir website the strike happened March 23, just after the U.S.-led coalition began airstrikes to support Iraqi forces trying to retake the Islamic State-held city of Tikrit. It identified the dead as Ali Yazdani and Hadi Jafari, saying they were buried Sunday. It called them advisers, without elaborating on whether Iran contacted Iraqi or U.S. forces after the strike.

Iran occasionally reports on the death of its forces in Iraq and Syria, where it is backing embattled President Bashar Assad, but this is the first time Iran has said it has lost forces in an attack by the U.S. in those campaigns.

The U.S.-led coalition began a campaign around Tikrit, Saddam Hussein's hometown, on March 21 in support of large-scale operations to retake it after Iraqi efforts had stalled.

Reached by The Associated Press about the Guard's claim, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad said: "The international coalition is aimed at Daesh only," using an alternate Arabic acronym for the Islamic State group.

"All airstrikes are carried out at the request of the Iraqi government and in full coordination with the (Iraqi) Ministry of Defense," the embassy said, without directly addressing the Iranian claim.

The U.S. Air Forces Central Command also recorded "no strikes by coalition aircraft, manned or unmanned, in the vicinity of Tikrit from 22 to 24 March," spokesman Col. Edward T. Sholtis said in response to a query by the AP.

The Islamic State group now controls a third of both Iraq and neighboring Syria. The U.S. began airstrikes against the group in August, while Iran has offered advisers and other assistance to Iraq to fight the extremists.

On Friday, Iraqi media outlets reported casualties among Iraqi security forces near the University of Tikrit, allegedly from U.S. airstrikes. But the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad denied those claims, saying "no coalition airstrikes took place during the time or in the vicinity of these alleged casualties."

The offensive to retake Tikrit largely has been waged by Iraqi troops and Shiite militias advised by Gen. Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Guard's elite Quds Force. Several Shiite militias announced Thursday that they would boycott the Tikrit operations due to U.S. involvement, but Army Gen. Lloyd Austin, head of U.S. Central Command, told a Senate hearing Thursday that the U.S. agreed to Iraqi government requests to support the operation on the condition that the militias wouldn't be involved.

The militias have been accused by various human rights groups of committing atrocities against Sunni civilians in areas recaptured from the militant group. On a visit Monday to Baghdad, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his concern over "summary killings, abductions and destruction of property perpetrated by forces and militias fighting alongside Iraqi armed forces."

Iraqi military commanders said Monday they retook a hospital in southern Tikrit. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief journalists, said the military's three-pronged offensive is progressing toward the center of Tikrit slowly because of booby traps and suicide bomb attacks by the militants.

US, Britain, France, Jordan refuse to name ISIL as separate terror group

Russia says the United States, Britain, France, and Jordan have rejected Syria's proposal to add ISIL to the United Nations Security Council's sanctions list as a separate terrorist group.

"In the UN Security Council's Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee, the United States, Britain, France, and Jordan have blocked Syria's request supported by Russia to include the Islamic State (ISIL) terrorist group in the sanctions list as a separate group," read the statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday.

According to reports, ISIL Takfiri terrorist group is currently mentioned as al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) in the UN's sanctions list.

Moscow, however, said such naming fails to "reflect the true state of affairs" in Syria and Iraq, adding that the terrorist group did not evolve as a branch of al-Qaeda, but was funded and supported by the US and its allies.

"This position has an obvious political motivation - to disclaim responsibility for the growing scale of Islamic State's (ISIL) activities and prove that it is not a new entity that has been brought into existence by the implementation of plans to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad but the former al-Qaida in Iraq," the statement added.

The four countries' decision shows that "the anti-Assad coalition bears no moral or political responsibility" for the creation of ISIL, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Moscow also lashed out at Washington for the emergence of extremist groups in Iraq.

"It won't hurt to mention that AQI owes its emergence to the US invasion of Iraq in 2003," the statement added.

The ISIL terrorist group, with members from several Western countries, controls parts of Iraq and Syria, and has been involved in a series of heinous crimes against civilians and government forces in the two Arab countries.

Al Anbar Sunni Population Asking the Iraqi Federal Government to Send the Volunteer Core - Iranian Led Militia - to Help in the Fight Against ISIS

"...We are the sons of Ali (AS) & Hussain (AS) & the Volunteer Core are our brothers..."

thats a huge shift from the usual Nassibi attitude common in Al Anbar; I guess the lot have tasted ISIS rule & see it for what it is. I remember watching a documentary by VICE & a Sunni fighter (probably from the region) said that they would fight ISIS but also the Iraqi Federal Government as they saw it to be illegitimate. Now they're calling the Volunteer Core 'brothers'. This shows how desperate they've become.

Iraqi politicians' links to al-Douri exposed

Iraqi officials have obtained information from the mobile phone of Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, a top aide to executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, disclosing links between the notorious terror leader and some major Iraqi political figures.

A high-ranking Iraqi official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Monday that investigators came across names and numbers of some current Iraqi politicians as they were examining al-Douri's cellphone .

Al-Douri was one of the most-wanted terrorists in Iraq, who was killed in an operation by volunteer forces in the south of the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk on April 17.

The new information is a sign that al-Douri was in close connection with some elements inside the Iraqi government.

"The national security forces "¦came across the names of some current members of the parliament, ministers and Iraqi politicians during the investigation of his mobile phone," the source told al-Maloumah news agency.

Those names, the source said, include vice-presidents Ayad Allawi and Usama al-Nujayfi, Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq, and President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani.

Other major figures include fugitive former vice president, Tariq al-Hashimi, and some pro-western members of the Iraqi parliament.

Political sources have already confirmed that the names and numbers were on the phone records, with some saying that they also had some numbers from influential tribal chiefs and senior military commanders.

Al-Hawar news agency also quoted another source as saying that before his killing, al-Douri spoke about 45 minutes with Dhafer al-Aani, a member of the Iraq National Accord bloc in the Iraqi parliament.

Dhafer al-Ani, a leading lawmaker in the Iraqi parliament
Al-Douri remained at large following the US-led invasion of Iraq, which toppled Saddam in 2003. A notorious figure behind major terrorist attacks in Iraq after the fall of Saddam, he later joined forces with the ISIL terrorists when the Takfiris started their campaign of terror in Iraq in early June 2014. Iraqi popular forces have confirmed his death through conducting DNA tests.
