I am posting these links here if they do not belong here than please move it to an appropriate thread. Our soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice are being recognized after 100 years. From now on a day should be set aside in India to honour their sacrifice.

Actually, India Army in the present and former form, have done many sacrifices.

Therefore, each battle cannot be commemorated by setting a day for each.

We have the Vijay Divas and on that day, it should be celebrated for all valour displayed by the Army past and present. And it should be celebrated by the Nation.

Right now, it is confined to the Military celebrations, with media paying a lip service with a small column in the middle pages and the Nation being totally oblivious of the same.

The Indian soldiers fought for the British. The campaign was ultimately a failure and the nefarious Churchill blamed us for the loss. While I do not completely support the Indians who had enlisted in the British Army I think the soldiers of Gallipoli should find a mention in our history books.

Also I do not think a separate day should be reserved for remembering the victims of this campaign. While we should admire the courage and bravery of Indians serving the British army, we should also ponder over a few things. The Sikh and Gurkha regiments were the same regiments who crushed the Indian War of Independence in 1857. Many revolutionaries like Bagha Jotin,Masterda Surya Sen etc were caught and hanged by the Indian soldiers in the British police.

PM Modi on the same subject today on Radio.

I think we should observe this day (April 25) along with other nations to pay homage to all the brave sons of our Bharatvarsh. It is unfortunate for those of us who are learning about our history which should have been taught to us during our school days. I think GOI should construct a museum in the capital to exhibit the photographs and other historical artifacts for her citizens to learn and make sure their sacrifice is not forgotten.

I believe the Vijay Diwas is to honour wars with our neighbouring country where as the 1st and 2nd world wars should coincide with rest of the countries of the world. In Canada the media plays big part to keep new generation of children and immigrants informed about the sacrifices made by Canadians. One of the thing we do is introduce school going children to interactive media and parade by Armed forces and veterans.

Yes they do. It is on the second link. You will also find acknowledgement by New Zealand and Australia in a ceremony held in New Delhi cemetery. It is published in TOI.
