One has found on the various thread on China, Chinese posters ire when questioned about 'freedom' in China and they have claimed that it was a free place to express one's views etc.

Likewise, the Hong Kong posters have claimed that Hong Kong was a democracy and it was free and freer than the air on earth, in a manner of speaking!!

    This article indicates the reality.

Fortunately, from Hong Kong one comes to know a little more than what one comes to know from the votaries of the country that has the Forbidden City!!

The problem for China to give autonomy to Tibetans is that not only Tibetans are in what is known as Tibet, they are also are in what is known as Real or Greater Tibet.

It will cause huge upheaval in China.

Further, unlike those in Hong Kong, who be they Cantonese, Hakka or Yue, have been assimilated forcibly and are quite proud to disown their originality and instead claim to be the purest of the pure Hans.

That is not so with the Tibetans. They are proud of their heritage, their religion, their culture and their being distinct from the Hans. Therefore, unlike those in Hong Kong, who are attuned to accepting the overlordship of the Mainland Chinese, the Tibetans will fight shy and will have to be repressed repeatedly through brutal force as has been done quite a few times.

Therefore, Tibetan autonomy in the manner Hong Kong is, is a taboo!

Beijing's policy to not discuss this issue is in line with the manner CCP governs lest their is an upheaval that may affect remainder of China, especially those who are still taken to be minorities.

If nothing else, it may even encourage the subnationalist cultures, languages and traditions elsewhere in China that have been very astutely suppressed so far!

Till adequate number of stooges are spawned in Tibet and amongst the refugees in India who toe the CCP line, there can be no talk of autonomy like that in Hong Kong.
