Yemeni Forces Destroy Another Saudi Warship !!
TEHRAN (FNA)- Yemen's army and popular forces targeted and destroyed a Saudi warship in the waters near Bab al-Mandab Strait on Friday, the eighth Saudi vessel sinking in waters offshore Yemen in the last three months.
The Saudi warship was targeted with Yemeni missiles in the Al-Mukha coastal waters in the province of Ta'iz today. The sunken ship had repeatedly fired rockets at residential areas in Ta'iz province, inflicting casualties and destruction there. This is the eighth time that a Saudi warship is sent deep into the waters of Bab al-Mandab Strait by the Yemeni forces.Other Saudi battleships that were approaching Yemen's coasts retreated fast following the attack.

The coast of Al-Mukha is located in Bab al-Mandab strait and the Saudi-led forces have been trying hard for several months now to win control over the coastal regions near the waterway.

On December 5, the Yemeni forces targeted and destroyed a Saudi warship in the waters near Bab al-Mandab Strait.

On November 25, the Yemeni forces targeted and destroyed a Saudi warship in the waters near Bab al-Mandab Strait.

On November 15, Yemeni forces destroyed a Saudi-led coalition warship al-Mukha coast.

On November 7, Yemeni forces fired rockets at a Saudi-led coalition warship and destroyed it near al-Mukha coast.

On October 25, the Yemeni forces hit and destroyed another Saudi warship in Bab al-Mandab Strait

On October 11, another ship which belonged to the Egyptian army and named al-Mahrousa was destroyed by Yemeni missiles in the coastal waters near al-Mukha coast.

On October 9, Yemeni army and popular forces also fired missiles at a Saudi warship, and destroyed it in Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The warship was wrecked off the Southwestern coast of Yemen, in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden

Bahraini Jet Taking Part in Yemen War Crashes in Saudi Arabia: News Agency

A Royal Bahraini Air Force Force F-16
DUBAI:
A Bahraini F-16 jet taking part in a mostly Gulf Arab military campaign in Yemen crashed in southern Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, according to a coalition statement on the Saudi state news agency.

The pilot survived after the plane suffered a technical fault and came down in the Jizan region, the statement added, without going into further detail.

Bahrain has taken part in the Saudi-led coalition bombing the Iran-allied Houthi movement for nine months, and scores of ground forces from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have been killed since the start of the conflict.

In a separate incident, Bahrain's official news agency BNA reported on Tuesday that three of its servicemen were killed along Saudi Arabia's southern border in an accident, without providing any more details.

Mostly Gulf Arab forces intervened in a civil war in Yemen on March 26 after the Houthis forced its government into exile and appeared poised to seize the whole country.

The conflict that followed saw Gulf and pro-government ground forces claw back some strategic territory, but has left almost 6,000 people dead and plunged the already impoverished country into a humanitarian crisis.

Saudi Arabia and its allies view the Houthis as a proxy for Iranian power in the Arab world - something the Islamic Republic and the Houthis deny.

Almost whole of middle east is war torn. Iraq, Syria and now, Yemen.
This morning, I've received a video of beheading of 3 boys which my friend was telling to be from Syria.
Really, shocking to see killing of people in such inhumane way.
Feeling so bad for people of middle east. Humanity is dead there.
:(
I don't think beheading is inhumane.
Don't be saddened. There is a lesson in all this muzzie conflict and that is use logic and evolve instead of sticking with your old age customs.
This applies to hindus and other religion too.

I don't think beheading is inhumane.
Whatever, but I'm so disturbed on watching beheading of people in front of my eyes.
That terrorist made the boy to lean his head down, put a sword on his neck and asked him to said "Allah hu Akbar" and then, chopped his head in a moment.
It was horrible!!
Head fell like a ball with some flesh scratched from chest blood started flowing like water from chopped neck.
Really Horrible yaar!

Saudi casualties mount as Houthis repel border attack

The Saudi-led Coalition Forces were in for a surprise on Wednesday afternoon when they launched a massive-assault on the Tawwal border-crossing that is controlled by the Houthis and the Yemeni Army’s Republican Guard.

The objective of the attack was to surprise and overwhelm the enemy combatants; however, when they approached the border-crossing, they were ambushed by a Houthis battalion that killed an estimated 40-60 Saudi soldiers in what is being regarded as a disastrous military operation.

Journalists entrenched with the Houthis in northern Yemen have alleged that the total number of Coalition Forces killed exceeds 80; unfortunately, there is no way to verify this, given the fact that Saudi Arabia rarely reports their own casualties.

Regardless of the casualty count, the Houthis successfully repelled the massive assault by the Coalition Forces, dealing another blow to this Saudi-led group that has done very little to stabilize the country.

Yemen: Brazilian cluster munitions suspected in Saudi Arabia-led coalition attack

Saudi Arabia-led coalition forces appear to have used a Brazilian variant of internationally banned cluster munitions on a residential neighbourhood in Ahma in Sa’da, northern Yemen, this week, wounding at least four people and leaving dangerous unexploded submunitions strewn around the surrounding farmland, Amnesty International said today.

The organization interviewed a number of local residents including two victims, the medical personnel treating them, an eyewitness and a local activist who visited the site shortly after the attack. Unexploded “duds” pictured at the attack site bear similarities to Brazilian-manufactured cluster bombs Saudi Arabia is known to have used in the past.

“Because cluster munitions are inherently indiscriminate weapons, their use is prohibited by customary international humanitarian law. In fact, nearly 100 states have totally banned their production, stockpiling, transfer and use, in recognition of the unique and lasting harm they cause,” said Philip Luther, Middle East and North Africa Programme Director at Amnesty International.

“In addition to killing and injuring civilians when they are initially used, many submunitions fail to explode upon impact and continue to pose a risk to the lives of anyone who comes into contact with them for years. The Saudi Arabia-led coalition must immediately cease their use and all sides should publicly commit never to deploy cluster munitions and agree to join the global Convention on Cluster Munitions.”

Eyewitness accounts

The cluster munition attack was carried out at around noon on 27 October 2015 in a residential area of Ahma, approximately 10km north-west of al-Talh in Sahar directorate, near Sa’da city. Ahma is approximately 40km south of the border with Saudi Arabia.

A local activist who visited the site several hours after the attack found three unexploded submunitions around 20m apart, one in the field of a local farm, another near a greenhouse and the third next to a mosque. The nearest military objective known to Amnesty International is a market in al-Talh, approximately 10km to the south-east, which is known to sell weapons and has been targeted by airstrikes on at least five different occasions since the start of the Saudi Arabia-led bombardment campaign in March.

Eyewitnesses described how, despite the complete absence of military aircraft, a series of rockets screamed across the sky and exploded in mid-air, followed by dozens of explosions on the ground. These accounts and the remnants found on the ground are consistent with the use of cluster munitions fired via surface-to-surface rockets, using a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS).

Salah al-Zar’a, 35, a local farmer, was on the main road 50m away when the strike occurred: “I was on my motorcycle going in the direction of Dhahyan with another friend, when I saw… four rockets coming down… Each went in a different direction with two minutes between each rocket. There were four explosions in the sky first and then 50 explosions when they hit the ground. They landed on a group of 30 houses and shops.”

Saleh al-Mu’awadh, 48, a farmer who has 10 children, spoke to Amnesty International over the phone from his hospital bed in al-Jamhouri hospital in Sa’da city: “I was passing by on my motorbike on the main road next to the attack site, when all I felt was pieces of shrapnel. The impact of the strike affected farms a couple of kilometres away from the site.”

Shrapnel wounds

According to medical personnel treating the patients, one of the injured, 25-year-old Abdelaziz Abd Rabbu is in a critical condition with shrapnel injuries to the abdomen and chest.

Abdelbari Hussein, 22, another civilian injured in the attack, told Amnesty International: “I was sitting in my shop when the attack happened. I did not hear a plane, all I heard was the explosions.” He sustained shrapnel injuries to the abdomen.

Even though the attack may have targeted Huthi and other armed groups among the civilian population, the use of inherently indiscriminate weapons like cluster munitions is absolutely prohibited by international humanitarian law. Any use of cluster weapons violates this rule.

Banned cluster bombs

Cluster bombs and munitions contain between dozens and hundreds of submunitions, which are released in mid-air, and scatter indiscriminately over a large area measuring hundreds of square metres. They can be dropped or fired from a plane or, as in this instance, launched from surface-to-surface rockets.

Cluster submunitions also have a high “dud” rate – meaning a high percentage of them fail to explode on impact, becoming de-facto land mines that pose a threat to civilians for years after deployment. The use, production, sale and transfer of cluster munitions is prohibited under the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, which has almost 100 states parties.

Unexploded submunitions pictured at the attack site bear similarities to Brazilian-manufactured cluster bombs Saudi Arabia is known to have used in the past. The attack was on a residential neighbourhood in Ahma, Sa'da, Northern Yemen on 27 October 2015.

Even though Brazil, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the other members of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition participating in the conflict in Yemen are not parties to the Convention, under the rules of customary international humanitarian law they must not use inherently indiscriminate weapons, which invariably pose a threat to civilians.

Brazilian ASTROS II

Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the Cluster Munition Coalition have documented the Saudi Arabia-led coalition’s use of four types of cluster munition in the Yemen conflict to date, including three US-manufactured variants.

But this marks the first suspected use of Brazilian-made cluster munitions in the conflict.

Several Brazilian companies produce cluster munitions. While Amnesty International was unable to independently verify with absolute certainty the make and model of the submunitions dropped on Ahma, they bear similarities to one manufactured by a Brazilian company called Avibrás Indústria Aeroespacial SA.

The ASTROS II is a truck-loaded, multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) manufactured by Avibrás. ASTROS II can fire multiple rockets in rapid succession and three of its rockets can be fitted with up to 65 submunitions, with a range of up to 80km, depending on the rocket type. The company’s website describes it as “capable of launching long-range rockets, designed as a strategic weapon system with great deterrent power.”

According to Landmine and Cluster Munition Monitor, Avibrás has sold this type of cluster munition to Saudi Arabia in the past, and Human Rights Watch documented their use by Saudi Arabian forces in Khafji in 1991, “leaving behind significant numbers of unexploded submunitions.”

“Brazil must immediately come clean about the extent of its international transfers of banned cluster munitions, which go back decades. Brazil and other states that continue to allow the production and transfer of these weapons cannot claim ignorance of the toll they are taking on civilians in Yemen and elsewhere. Brazil must stop production immediately, destroy its stockpiles and accede to the Convention on Cluster Munitions without delay,” said Átila Roque, Executive Director of Amnesty International Brazil.

Amnesty International spoke to a senior official at Avibrás today who had seen the images from Yemen. He said the shape “resembles” Avibrás designs and did not rule out that it was theirs, but he said the probability of this was low because of the calibre size. However, he admitted that the company manufactured similar calibres in the early 1990s, and said he would investigate further.

EU Parliament adopts resolution calling for arms embargo against Saudi Arabia over Yemen
https://www.rt.com/news/333588-eu-parliament-saudi-embargo/

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling for the introduction of an arms embargo against Saudi Arabia over its operation in Yemen, The Greens political group reported on its website.
The resolution calls for an EU-wide arms embargo against the country, until alleged breaches of international humanitarian law in Yemen have been investigated, the group wrote.

"The European Parliament's call for an arms embargo on Saudi Arabia is unprecedented and reflects growing frustration at the conduct of war in Yemen by the Saudi Air Force. Saudi Arabia is a top arms client of the UK and France, and there is evidence that these weapons have been used in gross violations of international law in Yemen, where thousands of civilians have been killed since the start of the war in March 2015,” Greens/EFA foreign affairs spokesman Alyn Smith, who led efforts to get the amendment passed, said following the resolution's adoption.

Ceasefire Agreement May Split Syrian Rebels
Al Nusra and Ahrar ash-Sham have denounced the "cessation of hostilities" - now the rest of the rebel groups have to decide if they want to continue 'commingling' with them and share their fate

http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/34957-us-russian-ceasefire-pact-closer-to-a-syria-war-endgame
The United States and Russia are hoping that the partial Syrian cease-fire agreement they reached Monday to take effect February 27 will begin a new phase of the war. The cease-fire will not apply to operations against al-Qaeda's franchise in Syria (al-Nusra Front), and the two powers have apparently agreed to try to split off a significant number of armed opposition groups from their cooperation with al-Nusra Front.

Along with continued Russian, Syrian and Iranian operations against al-Nusra Front, that split could further weaken the al-Qaeda franchise and begin a process of winding down the war between the Assad regime and military forces other than ISIS.

It is by no means certain that the US-Russian agreement will have that effect. The two powers, as co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) have said they have gotten the assent of their allies in the group as well as Russia's Syrian government ally. But Turkey and Saudi Arabia are known to be unhappy with US policy, and it is unclear whether they would seek to undermine the agreement by encouraging armed groups not to give up the fight.

If the agreement does make any substantial progress toward that end, it will be a consequence of Russian and Syrian military success in threatening to cut the supply lines between the al-Nusra Front-led coalition of armed groups and the Turkish border. That success may be the only chance for ending the bloodletting in Syria, but it has come at a high price: A vastly increased tempo of airstrikes and some questionable targeting has caused a major increase in civilian casualties.

The Russian-led offensive has also upended the calculation the Obama administration and its Sunni allies had made ever since 2013 that the opposition forces led by al-Nusra Front could tip the military balance against the Assad regime sufficiently to pressure President Bashar al-Assad himself to step down. So the Obama administration has now shifted its strategy to exploit the very Russian intervention it had initially attacked in the hope of moving a large part of the armed opposition from the battlefield to the negotiating table.

Russia and the United States had long agreed that al-Nusra Front is a terrorist group that could not be part of a cease-fire agreement. But the Obama administration has refused in the past to acknowledge that armed groups that have gotten US arms have been fighting in coordination with al-Nusra Front. As recently as last week, Secretary of State John Kerry was demanding that Russia had to halt its strikes against what he called "legitimate opposition groups" or there would be no cease-fire. Kerry evidently dropped that stance, however, in negotiations with Moscow. A crucial feature of the agreement reached on Monday by Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was to develop a joint US-Russian map of the actual location of al-Nusra Front forces and those of other armed organizations in northern Syria. The clear implication of that agreement is that any military organization operating within close proximity to al-Nusra Front troops is a fair target for Russian airstrikes.

That much became clear in the State Department briefing Monday when State Department spokesman Mark Toner was asked by a reporters whether there was a problem of "commingling" of Syrian opposition groups that the United States had been supporting with al-Nusra Front forces and whether the United States was calling on al-Nusra's erstwhile allies to stop fighting alongside al-Nusra or face Russian strikes. Toner initially declared, "We believe we can delineate between Nusrah and Daesh and other moderate opposition groups on the ground."

But after a very long exchanges with reporters, he acknowledged, "Yes, I believe there is some commingling of these groups." And Toner went on to say, "We, the ISSG, have been very clear in saying that al-Nusrah and Daesh are not part of any kind of cease-fire or any kind of negotiated cessation of hostilities. So if you hang out with the wrong folks, then you make that decision.... You choose who hang out with, and that sends a signal."

The combination of military pressure on the al-Nusra Front and its allies and the Obama administration's decision to make clear to armed organizations that they must make a clear decision to separate themselves from al-Nusra Front operations takes the conflict into uncharted territory.

Under the US-Russian agreement, armed opposition groups other than al-Nusra Front and Daesh must declare their readiness to abide by a cease-fire by midnight Friday Damascus time. News media reaction to the agreement has revolved mainly around the lack of arrangements for monitoring the cease-fire and verifying who is violating it. But the real issue is what incentives the armed opposition groups have to abide by a cease-fire.

The calculations that will be made by each armed opposition group will be slightly different, depending on how it views the likely future trends in the war, how dependent it believes it is on cooperation with al-Nusra front for its military effectiveness, and how distrustful it is of the Assad regime, their external supporters and al-Nusra front itself.

No one believes that the entire opposition will abandon al-Nusra Front. The reality that has shaped the nature of the war since 2013 has been that virtually all armed opposition groups that were not already partisans of an Islamic emirate in Syria gravitated to tight military alliances with al-Nusra, because the latter had superior organization and highly effective military tactics. Also, such cooperation was being urged on them by Turkish, Saudi and Qatari agents who were generous with heavy weaponry, and the Obama administration supported its allies in the hope that it would force Assad to step down but not cause the collapse of the secular Syrian state apparatus.

That has meant that the non-Jihadist and non-Salafist anti-Assad groups have effectively become junior partners of al-Nusra Front and its closest ally Ahrar al Sham in "operations rooms" for coordination of military activities in the strategic northern provinces of Idlib and Aleppo. Reuters reported in April 2015 that CIA-supported rebels who coordinated their combat role with al-Nusra in the successful offensive to take over Idlib province were not even allowed to be part of the "operations room" for the offensive.

So even armed groups that have been supported by the CIA in the past are not "commingled" physically with al-Nusra forces may feel that they would be unable to carry out operations independently of al-Qaeda. And in fact most would be vulnerable to being attacked and even taken over by al-Qaeda. For many of them, participation in the cease-fire would likely mean giving up resistance to the Assad regime entirely. That may be a very difficult choice for some organizations to make - unless they believe the battle is likely to be lost in any case.

It seem certain that the US-Russian initiative will produce some split in what has been a united front of forces fighting the Assad regime. Jaish al Islam, the third largest anti-Assad organization apart from Daesh, whose physical base in the Damascus area, is already integrated into the negotiating structure. Its leader, Mohammed Alloush, is already the chief negotiator for the High Negotiations Committee team, which has officially represented the opposition in Geneva.

On the other hand, Ahrar al-Sham, the largest anti-Assad fighting force in the war other than al-Nusra Front and Daesh, which the Obama administration and its allies had hoped could be lured into negotiations, is certain to reject the cease-fire. It is simply too closely intertwined with al-Nusra Front to detach itself politically or physically, and it joined al-Nusra Front in denouncing the negotiations process.

At least for the time being, al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al Sham will likely remain a powerful coalition of fighting forces in the two northern provinces. The cease-fire agreement can increase the pressure on the al-Qaeda in Syria, but cannot by itself end the war any time soon. That will still depend on results on the battlefield - with all its attendant human costs.

ISIS suddenly trapped as Syrian Army pushes to recapture Aleppo supply route –

https://www.almasdarnews.com/articl...hes-recapture-aleppo-supply-route-map-update/ | Al-Masdar News

Lately, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has launched a major counter-offensive which aims to reopen the supply line from central Syria (Hama) to Aleppo city. By capturing Khanasser (Khanasir) and a few other villages, government forces have reduced the ISIS-held road to just 4 miles; just yesterday, it was 7 miles. According to a military source close to al-Masdar, the SAA intends to recapture the road entirely within the next 48 hours to come. Remarkably, ISIS fighters might become trapped in just hours as government forces continue to advance. Just a small escape route, largely made up of desert sand, links ISIS troops with the ar-Raqqah motherland which represents the capital of the self-proclaimed caliphate. Therefore, fighters of the Islamic State must either retreat while time is due or face the airstrikes of the Russian Airforce as well as seasoned government troops. Currently, Tiger Forces (an elite specialized SAA offensive branch) are leading the efforts to recapture the road; however, their soldiers are also backed by hundreds of troops from the Syrian Arab Army’s 47th Regiment of the 11th Tank Division, the Republican Guard, the Liwaa Al-Quds Brigade, National Defence Forces and Al-Ba’ath Battalion. Earlier this month, the very same Tiger Forces unit captured more than a dozen villages from ISIS in eastern Aleppo and thus secured a steady supply route to Kuweiris Airbase.

The chief of the Main operations Directorate of the General staff of VS Russian Federation Lieutenant General Sergey rudskoy said foreign military attaches and representatives of the media that today with zero hours in line with agreements reached by Russia and the United States as co-chairs of the International support group Syria, aviation aerospace defence forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has completely stopped the attacks in the "green zone", i.e. in those areas and armed groups that have sent us requests ceasefire.
Relevant instructions given by the Minister of defence of the Russian Federation immediately after the announcement of the Supreme Commander, made by results of negotiations with the President of the United States.
On 23 February, the Syrian side said that it agreed to stop the fighting in accordance with the Russian - American agreement.
Seventeen armed groups who applied to the command of the air base Hamim, and signatory of the bidding sheets shall comply with the ceasefire.
First of all, the units of the Syrian democratic army under the command of al-Ganim, the units "Iskenderun", "Suram" and "Halobia" armed formation "desert Falcons" and several others, who continue to perform tasks in the fight against ISIL. Some of them operate in conjunction with the regular Syrian army and other independent directions.
For carrying out focused work in this area at the airbase "Hamim" Center is created to reconcile the warring parties. It was headed by Lieutenant-General S. V. Korolenko.
A similar centre is formed by colleagues from the U.S. to Amman.
In order to maintain inter-state contacts in the military and interagency cooperation in Moscow, the defense Ministry deployed a special working group.
Representatives of the Ministry of defence also operate in the Russian delegation in Geneva.
For interaction between centres in Hamima and Amman, Moscow and Washington, as well as Geneva organized the "hot line" communication.
All the contact numbers and e-mail addresses on February 24 directed the American side.
Specifically to exchange information with our American colleagues developed a map of situation in Syria, which transferred to the American side during the bilateral consultations in Amman on 26 February, and also on military and diplomatic channels. It is applied to areas where work is underway to reconcile the parties of the conflict, Syrian government troops, Kurdish areas; designated areas held by the ISIL terrorists, "Jabhat an-Nusra" and controlled other armed groups.
To the representatives of the United States brought a list of armed groups, totaling 6 111 people who joined the ceasefire, as well as a list of 74 human settlements and areas with indication of exact geographical coordinates for which punches should be deleted.
In the course of consultations received similar map prepared by the U.S. side.
The list of militias, according to U.S. delegation, was sent to us through diplomatic channels. Currently work is underway to compare the received information with our data.
With the entry into force of the resolution of the UN Security Council in support of the Russian-American agreement on the ceasefire and to avoid possible errors when applying the blows, today, February 27 flights of Russian combat aircraft over the territory of Syria, including distant aircraft, are not implemented.
Yesterday, the U.S. side sent proposals containing standard terms and procedures necessary to ensure the cessation of hostilities.
They outlined a mechanism to monitor compliance with this regime by both government forces and armed opposition groups.
In particular, in case of violation of the terms of the agreement the party affected by the attack or assault, immediately inform Russian and American military representatives.
If you confirm the information about the violation of the Centre for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria from Russia or the working group on exchange of information from US jointly or individually take measures to end violations and rapidly de-escalate the tension.
As proposed by the Russian side the document also defines the procedure of exchange of information and dispute resolution on charges of violating the cessation of hostilities.
Currently Russia's efforts are focused on the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the affected areas, and human settlements, with the administrations which signed the agreement on cessation of hostilities.
From December 2015 for delivery of humanitarian goods made 29 sorties of Il-76, landed 102 of the platform with the food, medicines and fuel, with a total weight of 534 tons.
Since February 15, this year 7 convoys, in the number 32 car in the settlements brought 106 tons of food.
Obligations on observing the ceasefire executed by Russia in full.
However, this does not mean that ISIS or "Jabhat an-Nusra" can breathe a sigh of relief. We paboutlectu control of the situation throughout Syria. When this is applied daily at least 70 unmanned aerial vehicles, space and other types of intelligence.
The fight against gangs, recognized by the United Nations as a terrorist, will continue.
About the first results on the cessation of hostilities in Syria, during a briefing informed the head of the Center for reconciliation of the warring parties, Lieutenant-General Sergey Kuralenko on Hamim airbase in Syria.
To assist in the reconciliation of the parties to the conflict in Syria, at air base "Hamim" created a special Center to reconcile the warring parties. The center has 61 Russian officer.
The main tasks of the Center – assistance in conclusion of agreements on a ceasefire and the maintenance of the regime of reconciliation with the leaders of armed groups, monitoring of its implementation, as well as the organization of delivery of humanitarian supplies to the civilian population.
