NEW DELHI: Raj Thackeray's comments threatening to brand Biharis as "infiltrators" have fuelled a controversy with leaders from various political parties slamming the MNS chief over the issue.

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh said the Thackeray family itself belonged to Bihar and had settled in Dhar in Western Madhya Pradesh from where they migrated to Mumbai.

"If you look at the history of Mumbai, then it is a city of fishermen. Rest all have settled there from outside," Singh said.

Thacekray had yesterday threatened to force Biharis out of Maharashtra if authorities in Bihar take legal action against Mumbai policemen who picked up a teenager from there without informing their counterparts in that state.

Thackeray, whose party has often launched violent campaigns against Hindi-speaking people in Maharashtra, was reacting to reports that Bihar chief secretary Navin Kumar has written to Mumbai police commissioner voicing displeasure over the arrest of the youth for vandalising the martyr's memorial during Azad Maidan protest on August 11.

Shivanand Tiwari, a senior leader of the ruling JD-U in Bihar, hit out at Congress over the issue suggesting that the ruling party at the Centre and in Maharashtra is propping up Thackeray and drew parallels with the rise of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab during the terror days there.

"This (the conduct of Raj Thackeray) is a challenge to the Constitutional authority. Thackeray says in Azad Maidan of Mumbai that the police commissioner should be transferred and it is done soon after. Does the Congress-led government in Maharashtra giving an impression that Thackeray bigger than the government there.

"I will request the Congress at the Centre as well as the Congress-led government in the state to learn from their experiences in Punjab, where they propped up Bhindranwale. They are creating extra Constitutional authorities and strengthening them. A time will come the same forces will destroy them like the demon Bhasmasur," Tewari said.

If Bihar police is not competent enough to arrest these goons for us then they have no right to stop mumbai police from arresting these goons...
The riots that took place in mumbai have given bad name to local muslims here and some of them are my friends too...

It is time we should implement visa system for interstate migration to keep track of people like these..

Bihar had also raised issue with Karnataka Police arresting Chinnaswamy stadium bomb accused from Bihar. If Bihar cant take care of its criminals who go and commit grave crimes in other states, then others will have to take it u;p.

Bihar Chief Minister "Navin Kumar" ?? Who's he ?? You can see these newspapers and electronic media recruit any Tom,Dick,Harry as a journalist.

Yesterday, when 2 MI 17 choppers had worst accident in Gujarat, our beloved Gujarat Samachar printed "MiG 17" in Gujarati on the front page. Now you can see such type of ch*ti** writes articles and always tries to throw their retarded mind's agenda on us everyday. God bless India.

A fraud is answering a fraud, both are famous for making absurd statements, but undoubtedly Diggy is winner as no one asks to prosecute him an Indian Sherlock Holmes who starts to blame Hindutva guys within hours of any terror attack

Visa system is impractical. Are we going to put police all along the borders of a state to prevent 'illegal migration' ? A nuanced approach of asking the migrants to register with the local police station should work to some extent. Employers should refuse to employ people until they are registered and its even more easy to keep track of white collar and students.

Note this is not like a permit system..any Indian is free to migrate anywhere and work anywhere...but more like a registration that I have come here and my antecedents are these.

  10. Raj Thackeray's ancestral origins traced to Bihar

Book shows Raj Thackeray belongs to Bihar

New Delhi/Mumbai: After claiming that the Thackeray family belongs to Bihar, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh has come out with ‘evidence’ to prove his claim.

Singh has released a book, published by none other than the Maharashtra government, which shows that the Thackeray family, including Raj, is connected to Bihar.

Zee News is in possession of the book in question.

The book was published when the BJP-Shiv Sena combine was in power in the state and Manohar Joshi was the chief minister. The book is titled ‘Prabodhankar Thackeray Samagra Wangmay’.

Prabodhankar Thackeray, who compiled the book, was Bal Thackeray’s father and Raj and Uddhav’s grandfather.

The book traces the origins of the Thackeray family in detail.

According to Digvijay Singh, page number 45 of the book mentions that the Thackeray family first travelled from Magadh in Bihar to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, then to Chittorgarh in Rajasthan, and then to Madhavgarh in Pune, Maharashtra.

Raj Thackeray had recently threatened to label Biharis as infiltrators, following which Digvijay Singh had revealed that Raj himself belongs to Bihar and that he should not speak against Biharis.

If only that oaf Digvijay Singh had not claimed so, one could have believed that it was genuine.

Digvijay is known to be a Magician of the Moment.

That way, Pranab Mukherjee or Mamata Bannerjee are not really Bengali but could be UP bhaiyyas or Bihari.

Historically, the Bengali Brahmins have been the standard bearers of Madhyadeshiya culture in Bengal (Madhyadesh is the historic-cultural region of the upper Ganges–Yamuna doab which was the seat of Panch-Gauda brahmins).

Bengali Brahmins are categorized as Pancha-Gauda Brahmins (the Brahmins who traditionally lived to the north of the Vindhyas).

Though i am kinda torn between my indignation for Digvijay and contempt for Raj Tackhrey's cowardly politics

it still doesn't change that facts with solid evidence behind them are still facts even if they are presented by a crook

after all the Book was written by none other than Raj Tackhrey's Grand dad , It doesn't get more credible than that.

Why not! along with visa system there should be interstate export & import policies as well for finished goods ,raw material/minerals.

In addition there should be patent rights of the states on worshiping the GODs where they took incarnation. There are in numerous such measures like these can be taken to make this country free & prosperous.

With this kind of mind set who need enemies like Pakistan & China. Even GOD can't save INDIA.

    Height of BS thinking......

Re: Thackeray family originally belonged to Bihar: Digvijaya's reaction to Raj's comm

I dont know. There has to be a balance somewhere between people moving from state to state and swamping the locals. Mumbai itself has borne the brunt of migrants since 1947 - first from South and then from UP and Bihar (Biharis apparently are a smaller percentage of the migrants to the city, it is more UP people). Poor and middle class Marathis felt marginalised leading to Shiv Sena rising in the 60's.

Tomorrow if Bihar becomes a dynamo of growth, and it might seeing that Biharis are intelligent and hard working, who knows Southies and Marathis will be lining up in Patna!
