DEFCON is an alert system used by the US military to indicate the current threat of nuclear war.

The system has five states of alert, increasing in severity from DEFCON 5 - the least severe - to DEFCON 1 - the highest level.

Currently, the levels is understood to be at 5.

But conspiracy theorists have warned the threat has secretly been upgraded two levels to DEFCON 3 - meaning the US could mobilise troops in as little as 15 minutes.

Tensions between Russia and the US have continued to break down
The level was last upgraded to 3 in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 - with standby ordered for a potential rise to DEFCON 2.

Now website DEFCON warning system claim it has been upgraded again in a terrifying revelation.

While there are currently no imminent threats to the US, it claimed the situation is “fluid and can change rapidly.”

However it also highlighted the dying relationship between the US and Russia, citing concerns of all-out warfare between the bitter rivals.

A statement posted on its website read: “Tensions between Russia and the United States have reached levels beyond the cold war in the recent week.

“The situation between Russia and the United States is extremely fluid at the moment. In all likelihood as dynamic as at times during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

“At this time, the DEFCON Warning System feels that an increase to DEFCON 3 would be a prudent move.”

Russian citizens have been encouraged to find bomb shelters and gas masks today, as state-sponsored infomercials on television gave out guidelines on how people should prepare for a nuclear attack.

President Vladimir Putin meanwhile has ordered the evacuation of 40 million people in a military drill.

He also transferred nuclear-capable Iskander ballistic missiles to one of its strategic Baltic regions last week, in what officials claim was part of regular military manoeuvres.

However many world leaders fear the moves are being carried out in preparation for war.

Vladimir Putin is said to be throwing his weight around on diplomatic and military fronts
Russian television has been screening state-sponsored infomercials giving guidelines on how its people should prepare for an attack.

State-controlled media has also carried news bulletins urging civilians to familiarise themselves with the nearest bomb shelters and clarifying which government bodies would take command in the breakout of war.

The latest developments come as tensions between Russia and the US rise to their worst levels since the Cold War.

The Syria conflict lies at the heart of the rapid decline in relations between Russia and the West with the Kremlin becoming increasingly irritated by growing Western condemnation of the its bombing campaign in rebel-held eastern Aleppo.

President Vladimir Putin has caused alarm on both diplomatic and defence fronts, first pulling out of a state visit to France accusing President Francois Hollande of trying to humiliate him and then ordering a series of provocative military manoeuvres.

He has transferred nuclear-capable Iskander ballistic missiles into one of its strategic Baltic regions last week.

Russia says the missiles are being deployed as part of regular military manoeuvres to Kaliningrad.

Polish Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz said Poland considers the matter of ‘highest concern’ and is monitoring the situation.

And he also ordered the evacuation of 40 million people in a military drill in what world leaders fear is preparation for war.

The Royal Navy today said it was preparing to send two warships to intercept a heavily-armed Russian aircraft carrier other battleships sailing dangerously close to British waters on their way to Syria.

In Washington, US officials are preparing for a possible cyber strike on the Kremlin to ensure Russian hackers are unable to interfere with the Presidential election next month.

Security chiefs have already accused the Kremlin of hacking Democratic Party communications in a bid to destabilise the election.

And Vice President Joe Biden said: "We’re sending a message. We have the capacity to do it. It will be at the time of our choosing, and under the circumstances that will have the greatest impact."

US intelligence officials told NBC News the CIA “had already begun opening cyber doors, selecting targets and making other preparations for an operation”.

This week reports from Moscow suggested the Kremlin had ordered officials to fly home all relatives living abroad - with some residents claiming it is “another step towards war”.

The Kremlin is said to have told high ranking officials to bring their loved ones back to the 'Motherland' immediately - with any who disobey being overlooked for promotion.

Some defence analysts have characterised Mr Putin's posturing as a strongman leader throwing his weight around to deter western countries from interfering with his Syrian airstrike policy.

But former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev warned the world is at a 'dangerous point' due to rising tensions.

Nato forces and maritime patrol aircrafts have been sent to monitor the Admiral Kuznetsov warcraft and seven vessels, including a nuclear-powered cruiser, as it closes in on British waters.

Britain no longer has its own surveillance planes due to cut-backs in funding.

HMS Duncan and HMS Richmond are set to be deployed if the Russian ship, which is travelling to war-ravaged Aleppo, enters British waters next week.

A defence spokesman said: “It is significant. We will track them through our area of interest.”

The exact route of the Russian warcraft is not known, as it could pass through either the North Sea and English Channel, the Irish Sea or around the West of Ireland.

If it does use the Channel, the Russian vessel would sail just one mile away from British shores.

On the deployment, a defence expert said: “It is standard air and sea business; ‘We know you’re there. You know that we know’.”

It is believed the 300metre-long ship will practise its method of attack on Syria just north coast of Scotland.

Fears have been raised by defence experts that any military testing from Russia could stray into Britain, meaning the RAF would have to disband any Typhoon jets.

Nato has been given control of monitoring the Russian warcraft and is set to give orders on deployment.

US planning false flag attack to FRAME Russia in Syria, say conspiracy theorists
THE US has been accused of attempting to frame its rivals for bombings in Syria after it was revealed jets were being painted in Russian colours.

Several pictures of US F/A-18 fighter jets have gone viral
Several pictures of US F/A-18 fighter jets have gone viral after showing the aircrafts being painted in the blue and grey colours typical of Russian warplanes.

The practice is routinely used for training purposes and is in fact publicised and encouraged by the Marine Corps.

But conspiracy theorists claim there is more to the images than meets the eye, and could be a sign the US is to launch a terrible bombing campaign in Syria - and then blame it on Vladimir Putin.

Russia's SU-34 bombers, one of Moscow's most deadly jets, use the same light and navy blue colours for missions in Syria.

The photos were posted on social media by journalist Christian Borys, who wrote: “The U.S is painting their F/A-18's to match the paint schemes of Russian jets in #Syria. Standard training, but interesting nonetheless.”

Now truth seekers have claimed US war chiefs are giving the jets a lick of paint in a plot to carry out "false flags" attacks on targets in Syria.

Using planes bearing Russian colours, Americans can then blame the deadly strikes on the Russians - in turn giving them an excuse to deploy troops on the ground.

One conspiracy theory blog Superstation9 said: "By repainting these fighter jets, they can send them out on bombing missions, make certain they fly low and slow around a target a few times so people on the ground whip out their cellphone cameras to video the attack, bomb the hell out of something and then sit back as all the civilian videos come out on social media showing a 'Russian' plane committing the act!

"The perfect set up."

But US air forces regularly use planes painted in enemy colours as "aggressor forces" to take part in manoeuvres, so pilots can grow accustomed to seeing their targets in the skies.

It comes after the US accused Mr Putin of launching an airstrike on a UN aid convoy in Syria last month.

Officials claimed two Russia fighter jets launched the deadly attack on the outskirts of Aleppo in a "revenge attack" for an earlier airstrike that killed 60 people.

Russia, a key ally of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, denied any involvement in the attack.

Reports say a Russian fighter jet intercepted a US B-52 bomber over the Baltic Sea.

A Russian fighter jet intercepted a U.S. B-52 bomber over the Baltic Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry told Russian media outlets Tuesday.

Russian media quoted the ministry as saying that the Russian Su-27 was "dispatched to intercept the target" and "approached the aircraft staying at a safe distance, identified it as a U.S. strategic bomber B-52 and escorted it for some time."

The B-52, according to the ministry, was over international waters and flying near "Russia's state borders."

A spokesman for the U.S. European Command did not respond to request for comment.

Several B-52s, along with a contingent of maintenance troops arrived in the United Kingdom in recent days to participate in a series of NATO exercises happening this summer. Sabre Strike, one of the multinational exercises, began last month and will take place in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania during the coming weeks.

B-52 bombers first entered service in the 1950s and will fly long into the 21st century as the workhorse of the Air Force's bomber fleet. The hulking eight-engine aircraft are capable of holding 70,000 pounds of munitions and have been upgraded in past decades to drop everything from sea mines to nuclear-tipped cruise missiles. A detachment of the planes are currently participating in the air war against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

Last month, a Russian aircraft came within 20 feet of a U.S. surveillance plane over the Baltic Sea in an incident the Pentagon called "routine." Additionally, U.S. aircraft intercepted a number of Russian bombers near the coast of Alaska in May.

NATO jets intercepted Russian aircraft more than 100 times near the Baltic States in 2016, according to data provided by the Lithuania Defense Ministry to a regional news agency. After Russia annexed Crimea and sent troops into eastern Ukraine in 2014, the number of NATO intercepts peaked at 160 in 2015.
