    Shinde is on appease-all drive. I doubt they will reach any breakthrough. Cong will only measure degree of public sentiment attached to issue & suppress or intensify Telangana demand based of judgement for required numbers in next polls.

    Telangana will be a reality ‘very’ soon

    @Iamanidiot - any comments.

    Telangana will be a reality ‘very’ soon
    Vicky Nanjappa

    The state of Telangana is likely to become a reality for those fighting for a separate state very soon. Highly placed sources in the Congress Delhi informed that it has become inevitable to keep the formation of the state pending and a decision announcing Telangana will be made very soon.

    This time around the Congress is not likely to toy with the formation of the state. There are no discussions on the anvil left anymore and an announcement would be made. The matter has been discussed and debated at length by the Pranab Mukherjee, Ghulam Nabi Azad and membes of the Congress from Andhra Pradesh before a decision was arrived at.

    Although no time frame has been given for the announcement as yet, many are expecting that it could take place in January. The Congress does find itself on a very weak wicket in Andhra Pradesh and hence a decision in this regard became necessary.

    The battle for Telangana has been on since the past five decades and thousands have lost their lives for the movement. Telangana is the largest of the three regions in Andhra Pradesh and covers nearly 41 per cent of the total area. It contributes to 76 per cent of the states revenue.

    There have been protests galore since the past five decades. However the agitation grew stronger following the death of Dr Y S Rajasekara Reddy and since then there have been no signs of the same stopping. Most of the protests emerged out of the Osmania university campus and over a period of time it had become a student driven movement.

    Congress action inevitable- The Congress did try its level best to keep the movement at bay for quite sometime. However the scenario in the Congress is different after Jagan Mohan Reddy broke away from the party. His YSR Congress party has eaten into the Congress in various parts of Andhra and Rayalseema. The fight against Jagan appears to be tough for the Congress. In addition to this they did not find any shake up to the YSR Congress party after the arrest of Jagan. Both his mother and sister have done a fair job in leading the pthe party ahead. However Jagan finds himself on a weak wicket in Telangana as he has not been in favour of a separate state. Hence this become the only ground for the Congress to hold on to and feels that announcing Telangana would be the best decision as it would gain politically in Telangana.

    Hyderabad - Even if a decision on Telangana is made there would be some issues pertaining to the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad is very much a part of Telangana. However once the announcement is made Hyderabad would not be taken away from the rest of Andhra Pradesh. It would remain a common capital for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for at least five years. The people of Telangana have no problem whatsoever in sharing the capital, provided it is time bound. Dr Prithviraj, head of the students Joint Action Committee for Telangana says that there is no issue whatsoever in sharing the capital. However it should be so only for five years only. It is not a problem for us. It is a bigger problem for the people of the Seema Andhra region as they need to travel a great distance. He says that Vizag is one of the fastest growing cities in India and it would be better for the people of the rest of Andhra Pradesh to have that place as its capital.

    Dr. Prithviraj sounded elated as he heard that the Congress would finally form Telangana. We have heard this many times, but it appears inevitable for the Congress at the moment. Whether they are giving it from their heart or for their own political reasons is not a concern as long as they are forming the state. The people of Telangana will finally enjoy their freedom. We were first suppressed by the Nizam and then by internal colonization. Once Telangana is formed, then in a decade the graph of our state will grow very high.

    Dr Prithviraj however points out that the next fight in Telangana once it is formed would be to drive out these feudal type of politicians. No politician will be allowed to claim credit for this and there will be an entirely new wave of politics in the state. The likes of the TRS have only aided in delaying the movement and they too realize that once Telangana is formed their time is up.

    He however assures that all those person from the rest of Andhra Pradesh settled in the Telangana region will continue to live in peace. However he is quick to add that those who have exploited the people of Telangana will have to face the music. I mean those cases of land grabbing in large numbers will have to be corrected.

    A member of the Congress from the Telangana region said that this is a welcome move. We have been telling our party that there is no joy in delaying the formation of the state. We have been criticized for not resigning to our posts. But we wanted to remain in the party and ensure that the formation took place. Leaving the party would have meant that there would be no voice in Delhi to convey to the high command. We wanted to raise the issue at the plenary of the party held at Hyderabad, but were advised not to do so as we were assured of a positive decision in this regard. We have said that there ought to be some positive announcement by December 28th at least. We hope that an announcement as soon as that would be made, he also pointed out.

    However within the AP Congress there continues to be voices of dissent over the formation of the state. Some are worried that they may lose badly in Rayalseema and Andhra regions if the state is formed. But they have been told by the high command that it is extremely important to hold on to some part of the state rather than lose it all. We would continue to oppose the formation until the last moment, the Congress leader said. None in our constituencies in the rest of AP are in favour of breaking up Andhra Pradesh.

    Political changes - There are expected changes in the political scenario in Telangana if the state is formed. The TRS according to many will be wiped out once the state is formed. All these years we voted for the TRS as there was no other alternative and it appeared that they were serious about the cause. However over a period of time we realized that they were out to delay the movement for their own political gain, the Telangana activists point out.

    Political observers say that either ways it is tough for the TRS to survive in such an environment. If the Congress forms Telangana then the TRS is most likely to merge with the Congress. The TRS would go the Praja Rajyam Party way as it would need the Congress in order to survive. However if the Congress does not announce the formation of Telangana, then there is every chance of the TRS allying or merging with the YSR Congress party, political observers also point out.
