Tata Motors today said it has bagged an order for supplying 1,200 multi-axle trucks to the Indian Army. It is the single largest order awarded to an Indian company in land systems by the Indian army and comprises 1,200 units of high- mobility 6X6 multi-axle trucks, Tata Motors said in a statement. The trucks will be used for loading-unloading and transportation of ammunition pallets, spares and other operational equipment, it added. Developed indigenously, the Tata 6X6 high mobility all- terrain all- wheel drive vehicle, has completed a total trial duration of 25 months, demonstrating maximum performance in the most demanding conditions, the company said. "We at Tata Motors are extremely proud to have bagged the single largest order, among Indian OEM's from the Indian army, for the most technologically advanced high mobility load carrier system ever built here in India," Tata Motors, Vice President, Defence & Government Business, Vernon Noronha said. The order is a validation of Tata Motor's strategy and growth potential, he added. "As leading suppliers of mobility solutions to the country's security forces, we will shortly commence delivery of these high-mobility vehicles," Noronha said. Tata Motors stock was trading at Rs 401, up 0.72 per cent, on the BSE.

    What do you think?

Tata Motors has supplied over 100,000 vehicles to the Indian military and paramilitary forces, having been associated with the sector since 1958.

We have long trucks that might be useful for a canisterized TEL.

@Shaitan, does it look like this truck has independent suspension in the front?

According to another commentator called yaqoob in another forum, these trucks will be made in Karnataka. It is interesting to note that Karnataka has a KamAZ factory as well. The off-road award winning KamAZ will be sitting and watching while TATA makes these trucks.

    WRONG INFO.
They will be made in Jamshedpur and further integration MAY take place with the help of TATA power (for select electronic equipment if any ) from Karnataka.... IF THERE IS A K'TAKA CONNECTION IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Ok, you might as well be correct. Another commentator in another forum (cannot link it) says that they are expected to be made at Dharwad, Karnataka.

Dharwad does not have the CV testing facilities that J'pur has. As I said the chassis etc. will be made, assembled and driven in J'pur. The only thing they can do in Dharwad is some body building and doing that there is only justified if they want to integrate electronics alongside and need input from TATA power also based in K'taka.

It is a big bus and tiny bus/truck manufacturing unit. They do not make cars, AFAIK.
