Targeted killings in Punjab an ISI conspiracy: Capt Amarinder Singh

NEW DELHI: The Punjab government on Tuesday said that the targeted killings being carried out in the state for more than a year now were part of a conspiracy hatched by Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI.
"Breakthrough in targeted killings with arrest of 4, conspiracy was hatched by #ISI on foreign soil to spread communal disturbances," chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted.
He was referring to the killings of Amit Arora, Shiv Sena leader Durgadas Gupta, RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja, Sri Hindu Takht official Amit Sharma, Dera Sacha Sauda followers Satpal and Ramesh Kumar, Pastor Sultan Masih, and RSS leader Ravinder Gosain.
The CM added that with the arrests, the cases in Ludhiana, Khanna and Jalandhar had been solved, and that one of the four suspects was a gangster lodged in jail.
"They were using encrypted mobile software/apps for communication with handlers based in Pak, western countries; were trained abroad," he said.
The DGP of Punjab said that a nexus exists between gangsters who provide youngsters weapons and radicalise them, ANI reported.
CBI investigators had some weeks ago begun to suspect that the murders were all part of a series of political killings in Punjab by Sikh radicals, based on the use of the same lethal weapons, identical modus operandi, and similar victim profile, a report in The Economic Times had said.
"Inquiries have revealed that Sikh radicals consider Saturday to be a significant day for carrying out their operations," a senior official had said.
Furthermore, the assailants in these cases came on a motorcycle with their faces covered and shot at the victims at close range, in what was reminiscent of the insurgency in Punjab, when terrorists came with their faces covered and targeted mainly Hindus in an attempt at polarisation.
