The Hindu : States / Tamil Nadu : Tamil Nadu retains second slot in attracting foreign tourists
That should be fixed in my opinion because of the way it works a lot should be in our knowledge because that's important. The way you have talked of it is surely something that has a way out.
Majority of crowd to Tamil Nadu may be coming from Tamil diaspora in South East Asia.
What are the prominent tourist spots in TN? Being from Bangalore, I love going to the Nilgiris - Ooty, Coonoor, Red Hills, Mudumalai, Masinagudi, etc. Then there are a few less-prominent hill stations like Kodaikanal, Yercaud, etc. There are several temples - Kanchipuram etc. And no, I don't count Pondicherry as part of TN.
Considering this, these tourist numbers are surprising. I think, as speculated above, SE Asian diaspora form the bulk of travelers in this case.
