Went through the comments and I was frankly surprised to see more Keralites and Kannadigas [with the occasional Marathi and Bengali] support the anti-Hindi agitation than even Tamil posters....:hmm:

Many people wanted an Independent Tamil Nadu at various points in time....

Anyway since we are in a remove_cartoon season why not go the whole hog..?.. Also this resolution is more or less unanimous and at the moment all parties are united on this....

Yes, but those voices died after 1962. IIRC Vaiko is a recent supporter

India as a Union of states must be based on ration thinking rather than get swayed on emotive issues...

I dont think Vaiko ever made a call for an independent Tamil Nadu - the most I can remember is he called himself Tamil Indian.

To create issues over cartoons is the flavour of the moment.

And mostly who raise such issues are cartoons themselves and so they feel a bit uncomfortable to realise what cartoons they are.

It again came in the 65 -66 when there were anti-Hindi agitations, when protesting against the language was conflated with anti-India secession by some sarkari babus in North and also during the Lankan war..

That is correct - he labels himself as Tamil first and the rest second.

Ironically he is a Telugu speaking Naicker....

The issue has become bigger with each party announcing protests on different dates.

Also another thing seems to be on the cards - a mistaken reference to Hindi being the national language in class 10 social book....protests r also being organized 4 dat..

The thing goes like this, we will accept the Northie Nonsense to learn Hindi as soon as the Northies start learning other regional languages like Tamil, Telugu etc along with Hindi and English. Else, we would like to keep it as an "option" and will learn it "as and when required".:namaste:

actually there was a formal proposal to teach any one of the other states language as their 3 rd language in a state schools. ex in some Bihar schools, Bengali or Odia is taught as 3 rd language. But this move never became widespread

Just like the way the Hindi as the erd language in all states did not spread to Tamil Nadu. Let the regionalistic pigs from Dilli talk all non sense regarding the issue, but the forced implementation of Hindi into Tamil Nadu(dont know about the rest of the Non-Hindi states) just wont work.

Let them learn Tamil/or any other regional languages like Telugu/Kannada/Malayalam etc , then we can talk about learning their "regional language" Hindi

Actually before joining here , even I had the same feeling regarding these "idiots". Only problem is, after joining here, I came to know how regionalistic the Northie wallahs can be. These pigs cant think past their Dilli. Hence I think we can reserve our right to learn or not learn something as per our wish.

    No it was the opposite.

The protests were about a promise [by Nehru] which was not upheld and which would have spelt doom for aspirants for central govt jobs from , not only Tamil Nadu, but every non-Hindi speaking state in India. Of these states some like Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra may escape given that they are mutually intelligible with Hindi. But the people from the four Southern states would have been hit badly..Because once Hindi was declared as the national language all entrance tests, interviews would have been conducted in Hindi and this would have meant an undue advantage for people from Hindi speaking states who had the benefit of HIndi being their native tongue.

Also everything starting from job advertisements to railway announcements would be in Hindi and this would mean not only treating our mother tongue in our place as a second choice but also a huge inconvenience to those who are illiterate and cant understand Hindi.. Why should any one accept their native tongue being relegated to second choice in their own land ?

Now coming to the ruining part, what has been ruined in TN ? Nothing, infact it chased away Congress from power and in hindsight it was a blessing in disguise for TN with our regional parties running the show and here we are, one of the most developed states in India.

BTW it was not a Tamil only philosophy. It was a Tamil for local calls and English for STD calls philosophy and it has worked like a charm, not only in TN but also in all the southern states.

And People claim that Tamils are ethno nationalists. Fact is we are not. We respect anyone as long as they respect us. For instance, Vaiko the much alleged tamil seperatist(though he is a very nationalistic Bloke) is actually a Telugu naikar. Take JJ. She is from Karnataka. Or even MGR, the CM who ruled TN four times. Actually he was not from Tamil Nadu.

WE pride ourselves as people who respect and love anyone who comes to us. You can hear this slogan , statement in all the Tamil movies- "Vandharai Vazhavaikkum Tamil Nadu". But we are painted in the wrong picture because we dont confirm with the regionalistic turds of Delhi. I am glad that other Southern states are becoming more aggressive about their linguisitic rights just like TN:happy:.

Oh BTW, Tamils love their language. You have no idea how much the State govt offers as scholarships, grants and stuff for people who excell in Tamil Language. But Just because we love our mother tongue, it does not mean that we are regionalistic. And just because Dilliwalahs speak hindi, it does not become a National language.
