  • China is still smarting from Donald Trump's pro-Taiwan comments
  • It's now suspicious India too will jump on the bandwagon
  • However, Beijing warns India it will 'suffer losses' if New Delhi 'plays the Taiwan card'.
NEW DELHI: Two days after a parliamentary delegation from Taiwanvisited India, China lodged a diplomatic protest with New Delhi asking it to deal "prudently" with Taipei-related issues so as to maintain sound Sino-Indian ties.

That this might happen was indicated by the fact that China used its state media earlier today to warn New Delhi that "playing the Taiwan card" is akin to "playing with fire."

"We hope that India would understand and respect China's core concerns and stick to the 'One-China' principle and prudently deal with Taiwan-related issues and maintain sound and steady development of India-China relations," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told the media, PTI reported.

Of course, China is still smarting from brand new US President Donald Trump's pro-Taiwan and anti-China statements. And it's afraid its other traditional rivals will borrow a page from Trump's diplomatic playbook.

China, which considers Taiwan as part of its mainland, opposes any diplomatic relations as well as political contacts with Taipei by countries which has diplomatic relations with it.

"...some Indian strategists have advised the Modi government to play the Taiwan card, using the commitment of the 'One-China' policy as leverage in exchange for China's endorsement of 'One India. By challenging China over the Taiwan question, India is playing with fire," said a column in Global Times, a media outlet affiliated with theChinese Communist Partynewspaper, People's Daily.

On the one hand the column says that Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen is exploiting India's "strategic suspicions against China" and on the other hand, it displays Beijing's extreme suspicion about the visit of a Parliamentary delegation.

"High-level visits between India and Taiwan are not very frequent, so why did India invite the Taiwan delegation to visit at this time?" says the Global Times column.

Separately, Geng said "those who are visiting India are so called legislators from Taiwan" and Beijing is opposed to any official contacts between Taiwan and other countries with whom China has diplomatic relations.

India, the column added "must be wary" about Taiwanese President Tsai's intentions.

"India wants benefits from the development of trade with Taiwan and Taiwanese investment. But it should be wary of Tsai's political intentions and avoid being used to confront the mainland...Pro-independence forces in Taiwan have become more isolated in the world. Those who want to use the Taiwan question to contain the mainland will have to suffer losses," the column warns.

Just a few days back I wrote in Vietnam thread that India needs to make similar weapons deals with Taiwan. This is a good way to start.

Oh really? What losses? The chinks have a $50 billion trade surplus with India. We stop trade they lose the dosh! Period. So the losers would be the Chinks not us!
"We hope that India would understand and respect China's core concerns.
Huh? They need to practice what they preach. Are they respecting our core concerns? What about terror state Pak's Hafeez Saeed and Masood Azhar, the rabid anti India terrorists the Chinese are backing to the hilt in spite of the UN declaring them terrorists? 'Core concerns' my ass!

Good job India! Next we should invite the freedom movement delegation from Tibet.

India should engage all like minded countries like US and every nation who has trade loss with China to boycott Chinese products. This will definitely rattle the lizard as the whole economy of China is dependent on exports. No export no money and crashed economy will put lizard back in hole.

Hope you folks remember......

Recently Trump said that, he won't change One China Policy....

Trump was the first person who went against the same policy... GoI has noticed Chinese rattling. No one backed Trump quickly and he felt that he is all alone and had taken backstep.

GoI want to stirrup things on One China Policy hoping Trump would come back, Adding Japs and another countries to this will cause more than mayhem in China.

But first, India should be ready to go through the Shi*storm which Even Trump's America was not ready to go through. Let's see if Modi's India is ready or not

India-Taiwan Relations: What is the Way Forward?

India is one of the first few nations to demolish their diplomatic ties with Taiwan.

India in April 1,1950 demolished its ties with RoC(Taiwan) and recognizes PRC.

  • Even though both nations maintains some what unofficial embassies namely India-Taipei Association,Taipei & Taipei Economic and Cultural Center,New Delhi these were established in 1995 to promote non-governmental interactions between both nations and to facilitate business, tourism, scientific research.

  • The India-Taipei Association has been authorized to provide all consular and passport service.
  • The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center is ITA’s counterpart at India.
  • Taiwan has also viewed India's rising geopolitical standing as a potential counterbalance to PRC’s dominance in region
  • As a part of India’s “Look East Policy” India has sought to cultivate extensive ties with Taiwan.
  • Both sides have aimed to develop ties to counteract Chinese rivalry with both nations.

AFAIK , ROC have more territorial claim on India , it even still claim Leh , Ladakh .
We don't need Taiwan issue to irritate and alert commi china ,contrary of US we already have Tibet issue to play agisnt China and threaten them.
We need to focus on inner tibet where majority of ethnic Tibetan resides , problem in Inner tibet also hamper chinese hydro projects which very crucial for future of china.
China already heavily involve in North East , and support terrorist even in UN , time to teach them what is insurgency and terrorism .
Chinese militaries large scale deployment was against it's student in 1989 , I am sure if we play our cards well along with some big power , we bleed china in Tibet .
In 1930,40s many tibetan driven han out of inner Tibet , they can be violent , need to think of it.

if india had backed trump that would be india following trump and it would be trump win ,

after that trump and usa would had done the same , that is backed out from it and india would had taken the chinese brunt looking like fool ,

but instead modi govt. waited and watch and after trumps retreat , they gonna ahead with it ,
now either trump administration follow india or no credit to them .
