I would be more concerned about the fact the latest order for MKI doesn't include the Super upgrade. Shouldn't that be included?

happend to read this,so just a repost

India is in talks with Russia to upgrade the Sukhoi-30-MKI fighters with latest radars, avionics and killer missiles and will carry a rather high-sounding name "Super Sukhoi".

IAF Chief Air Chief Marshall NAK Browne today said "talks are on with Russia on the Super Sukhoi". The latest lot of 42 for which an agreement was signed on December 24 will not be the upgraded class, the IAF Chief added while answering queries on the sidelines of an Aero-India function. There are 230 Sukhois in the IAF inventory and another 42 were added when Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India.

The plan is to upgrade the first 80 Su-30MKIs to the level 'Super Sukhois' which will have highly advanced radars and weapon systems, sources said.

Sukhoi-30 MKIs have been inducted into IAF in four phases with licenced production having started in India in 2001. Though there has been speculation as to the signing of the upgrade contract, the IAF chief clarified that some issues were still to be finalised.

The initial plan is to integrate more than the 290-km range BrahMos Cruise missile. A long-range cruise missile will also be added other than the BrahMos. This will be for range of about 350 km and a request for information (RFI) was issued late last year for procuring such a weapon system from global suppliers.

The aircraft would also have the highly-advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) named the 'Zhuk-AESA' Radar system. This can track 30 aerial targets in the track-while-scan mode and engage six targets simultaneously in attack mode.

Clears the questions about the last 42 aircraft. It was contracted for $1.6 Billion, so regular MKIs here.

The aircraft would also have the highly-advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) named the 'Zhuk-AESA' Radar system. This can track 30 aerial targets in the track-while-scan mode and engage six targets simultaneously in attack mode.
This part is still not clear. No official confirmation of which AESA was chosen, Bars or Zhuk-AE.

All reports regarding Zhuk-AE are innacurate. The details of Bars upgrade can be read here, on page 29 and 30.
http://en.take-off.ru/pdf_to/to25.pdf
Phazatron has only talked about FGA-29 (500 mm, 650 modules) and FGA-35 (688 mm, 1000+ modules) systems. Nothing about a 900 mm or 1500+ module to date, at least from what I know of. Even in the interview they are talking about using new T/R modules for the future, so yeah, Bars all the way. Anyway, Bars AESA is called the Phase 2 upgrade, so it makes sense we expect the same for MKI.

An excerpt from the interview,

You are right, the Irbis is second to none
in the world, indeed, as far as its test-proven
characteristics are concerned. Last year, the
fight trials involving the Su-35 fighter produced
the unique aerial target acquisition
results – much more than 400 km! This is the
unrivalled achievement of the world's aircraft
radar industry.
Shows quite a bit of what they may achieve for the AESA versions of both Irbis-E and Bars.

Brahmos in final Integration with Sukhoi

The final phase of integration of an air-launched version of the Indo-Russian BrahMos-A supersonic cruise missile on a Su-30MKI is in its final stages. BrahMos CEO Dr. A Sivathanu Pillai said at the Aero India seminar in Bangalore last week that a first test-firing would take place in 2014.

Integration and testing has been delayed hugely principally by the Sukhoi Design Bureau's reluctance to prioritise cooperation in helping with the modifications required to integrate the missile with the Su-30. The BrahMos-A carries a reduced booster and fins for stability. There's better news as far as the navy is concerned: The BrahMos will be tested for the first time from an underwater pontoon launcher this year.

Hi, does anyone know what missiles are hanging from the innermost pylon of MKI in the last pic? Thanks

Executives from Irkut Corporation of Russia held talks with the Indian Air Force (IAF) chief, NAK Browne and other IAF brass at Aero India 2013 here on upgrading the Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter plane to the next generation model, dubbed as 'Super Sukhoi'.

The most significant aspect of the upgrade will be installation of an Active Electronically Scanned Array(AESA) radar, weapons, avionics, new cockpit and fire control systems. Integration of the Brahmos cruise missile too will form part of the upgrade program, though the integration and testing will be performed in India.

Irkut Senior Vice President Vitaly Borodich told a group of journalists at Aero India 2013 that while the Indian side was open to the idea of upgrading, deciding the different aspects of the upgrade program was the subject of current negotiations. "We met with IAF Chief NAK Browne and other IAF officials to discuss what components will go into the upgraded SU 30 MKI", Borodich said.

Following the upgrade, the SU30MKI will have enhanced air-superiority capability together with ground-attack function making it a truly formidable multi-role fighter, Borodich said. Responding to a question about how different it would be from the Rafale multi-role aircraft which India has contracted from Dassault of France, Borodich said the latter is a light fighter while the former is a medium-heavy fighter.

Borodich said that the upgrade will also be offered to the additional 40 SU30MKI fighters which were contracted during the visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to New Delhi last December.

This is probably the first time when an upgrade is being offered relatively early in a fighter's life. In comparison, India is also upgrading its MiG29 fighters after nearly two decades of use.

Experts argue that a medium upgrade should be done after about 5-7 years of use due to the advancement in electronics, sensors and weapons systems which form the mainstay of a modern fighter.

the older sukhois were sent back to russia and replced by desi sukhois which are flaring up and falling down, as far as i can interpret from this report and older report all sukhois failed due to same problem, ie some technical glitch where plane sets itself on fire
Source about SuMK and K being returned? We have seen pics showing IAF sukhois still without canards. That means they are still in service.
