Hi,

Whats the importance of this Advanced Landing Ground (ALG)?
Will Su-30MKI be stationed there? Are there protected hangers for them at that place?

IAF don't have a permanent base in any ALG nor it does keep any high value asset at any of these. ALG is basically for logistical purpose and helds operational role in a wartime scenario. It does add to its operational strength.
As of now, its primary use would be for ground troop movement to the forward areas and logistical purpose. Although we would now see a lot more landings of Fighters in these fields for war simulations.
Previously any sortie in this region happens to take off from Chabua or Tezpur with full load and without any option of pit stop. But from now onwards we do have a optional pit stop in form of 5 ALGs in AP for any kind of sortie.

@gadeshiSir what does MK means in MKI /MKK/MKA??
Sukhoi-30MK (Сухой-30МК) is the modernized version of the Sukhoi-30 for commercial purposes, i.e. for export.

The letters МК represent the following:
  • Модернизированный (Modernized)
  • Коммерческий (Commercial, i.e. for export)

The third letter represents the country of sale and modifications done therefore:
  • Индийский (Indian)
  • Китайский (Chinese)
  • Малазийский (Malaysian)

So, you have MKI (МКИ), MKK (МКК), MKK (МКМ), etc..

Sukhoi 30 MKI is a long-range, high-endurance, heavy-class Air Dominance Fighter with multi mission capabilities. It is currently the most advanced version of Flanker series anywhere in the world.

Su-30 series were a logical upgrade over the Su-27 produced in the USSR

It gives its operator, the Indian Air Force, a capability that will remain unmatched by all rivals for the forseeable future.

Summary from Vayusena
---
Indian Air Force will raise four more squadrons of Su-30 MKI fighter Codenamed 'Flying Lancers' in Punjab along the Pakistan border.

A new $3.5-billion deal for 40 Super Sukhoi fighter aircraft will be signed between India and Russia. The fighters will be delivered by 2014-2015

Russia’s push to modernize its existing fleet of fighter aircraft. MiG has announced the first batch of MiG-35 Super Fulcrums is ready to begin test this summer, with hopes of seeing the aircraft operational in the 2018-2020 timeframe. This Fulcrum is a sharp upgrade from its predecessor, featuring modern weaponry and a radar which purportedly can track ten targets while simultaneously engaging four to six of them. Some are touting the aircraft as the Russian answer to F-35.

The MiG-35 has a necessary set of avionics enabling the use of all means of currently available air weapons against aerial, ground and surface targets. It also had a single or a double seat option which was previously assigned to specialized training and combat aircraft.

Today, the corporation has been working on the preparations for the production launch of the new generation 4 ++ fighters.

HAL may put in Rs 2,000 crore for Sukhoi 30 spares hub

NEW DELHI: With defence minister Manohar Parrikar determined to increase the efficiency of the existing fighter fleet, state-owned PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is working on a pact with the air force and the Russian government to set up a spares hub for Sukhoi 30 fighters in India.

The Russian origin aircraft has been facing technical difficulties with several fighter grounded for prolonged periods as the current process of ordering spare parts is time consuming and inefficient. This has resulted in a situation in which at any given point of time, only 50-55 percent of the fleet is ready for operations.

The aim is to increase this to at least 75 percent. Sources have told ET that HAL is looking to invest over Rs 2,000 crore to create a spares hub that will store and deliver all parts needed for the fleet. A long term spares agreement is likely to be signed between India and Russian shortly that will help in reducing the amount of time frontline fighters are grounded due to technical issues.

Senior officials said that as per the new agreement, the Air Force will source all its spares from HAL that will maintain an inventory of parts. As per current practice, spare parts are to be ordered separately with a lengthy process involving license, customs clearance and bank guarantees. The plan is to have a system in place that will ensure that spare parts are delivered within days of the Air Force raising a requirement.

Officials told ET that at times, the bureaucratic processes would lead to even a yearlong waiting time between the Air Force raising a requirement and the spare part getting manufactured. The Su 30 fighter - 272 of the planes have been ordered - is India's largest fighter fleet with bases in the east as well along the western borders.
