But now seems Tejas can do the job

They have been working on it for a while. When is the prototype likely? I mean, what stage of the design are they at? What engine are they going to use?

The current status of India's air-based
nuclear weapons is unclear. In addition to their ground-attack role, however, it is believed that the Dassault Mirage 2000s and SEPECAT Jaguars of the Indian Air Force are able to provide a secondary nuclear-strike role.

Jaguar has been officially confirmed by the Indian Air Force capable of delivering nuclear weapons. Though, the weapons can only be delivered by free- falling and unguided bombs.

Crystal Maze has a warhead weight of 100 Kg. Spice is a guidance kit like Paveway. Neither can be used.

AFAIK, we use gravity nuke bombs. The bombs make use of an aircraft's capabilities for deep penetration missions rather than rely solely on ballistic missiles.

In the future Nirbhay can also be used.

No p2p ! A DRDO official admitted in an interview to TOI that the turbofan is imported as the indigenous one is still not ready.

Force India reported that few years back India imported 5 turbofans from Russia.

* 3 were used in static tests
* 1 was used in the failed test
* The remaining one will be used in the coming test.

MTCR doesn't allow the purchase of engines for missiles above 300 Km range. Nirbhay's propulsion is indigenous.

This is the gas turbine on Nirbhay. It was designed by GTRE. The integration process started in 2011.

I don't trust anything written in Force unless confirmed from other sources or officially. Most of their "breaking news" stories are cock and bull stories concocted after 15 shots of Tequila. I would recommend touching them with a barge pole only after others confirm the news. This fairy tale is one of them.

So, we have two engine programs in the light categories. One is for Nirbhay and is in the 5 KN class, while there is one for UAVs in the 20 KN class. The 5 KN version is indigenous. HAL was looking for a partner for the 20 KN engine. The existence of the 5 KN engine was revealed in 2007 by HAL.

Jaguars are attack aircraft that are meant to strike heavy armour and ground SAM units down and of course, bomb enemy camps to oblivion.

But today's jets are multi-role, multi-weapons capable and can do two things at the same time. The ideal option would be to either increase orders for Tejas Mk2s or simply order more Rafales/Whatever the IAF is ordering.

The Indian one was designed in 2007, finished by 2011 and integrated the same year. There is no foreign propulsion on Nirbhay.

Jaguars are yet to undergo new upgrades. It should get new engines by 2023. They will be good until 2030-35. That's the time AMCA will replace Jaguars. By then neither LCA nor Rafale will be in production.
