Aditya Mehta and friend Aditi Jindal, both 21, had stopped by German Bakery on Saturday for a cup of coffee. After the blast, Aditya was rushed to Jehangir Hospital and Aditi to Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital at Koregaon Park. Aditi has lost a leg and has severe burns all over her body. At Jehangir, doctors said both of Aditya’s legs had to be amputated as there was fear of infection spreading. “He is currently on ventilator, struggling for life,†the doctor said. Engineering student Abhishek Kumar from Lucknow is another victim who has lost a leg. Admitted to the ICU of Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital, Abhishek also has renal bleeding and has developed acute respiratory distress syndrome. Rajiv Agarwal, a final year law student at Symbiosis Law College, had called his parents in Kolkata just hours before the blast, telling them he desperately wanted to return home. Both his kidneys have been seriously damaged. He requires dialysis. “We cannot go ahead with any surgery on him as his skin has become slippery due to the burns,†a doctor said. German Bakery waiters mourn colleague’s death Outside a unit at Sasoon hospital, a bunch of Nepali boys sit with expressions of absolute disbelief and shock. While these German Bakery waiters are praying for 19-year-old Paras Dheemal who is admitted at Sasoon, they are also mourning the death of Gokul Nepali, the waiter who had picked up the bag of explosives. “Gokul was just 22 years old. What’s worse is that his wife is pregnant,†said Ravi Thakali who has been with German Bakery since 1994. According to Ravi, it Dheemal saw the bag first. “Normally, we keep such things at the cash counter and wait for the owner to come back. Paras was about to pick up the bag when the lady at the next table asked him to get some water. Gokul then took the bag, triggering the explosive,†Paras said.
