Army goes Aggressive; Defence, Home Ministries Monitor Situation

JAMMU: Displaying aggressiveness with the backing of the Defence Ministry and the Army Headquarters, the Indian Army has strengthened its positions with deployment of more troops and paramilitary Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and seized cameras and other material used by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in construction of watch tower in Burtse area along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), about 500 meters inside the Indian territory in Ladakh sector.

Meanwhile, a Sector Commander level flag meeting between the Indian Army and PLA could take place tomorrow to resolve the standoff in Ladakh sector, which comes after more than a year as complete peace was prevailing between India and China and both the sides had only few days back opened a new Border Meeting Point (BMP) near Daulat Beig Oldie (DBO) sector and had frequent meetings and cultural exchange programmes on different occasions.

Official sources told the Excelsior that situation between India and China at Burtse, where Indian Army had dismantled a watch tower constructed by the PLA yesterday and seized the material including a camera, remained tense with both sides being in eyeball-to-eyeball position and strengthening their presence.

The Indian Army as well as PLA have called more troops and were maintaining their positions in the absence of flag meeting, which, sources said, could take place tomorrow if everything goes well.

“It could be Sector Commander level meeting and we hope the issue will be resolved as the Indian side was ready to return camera and other seized material of the PLA if the Chinese troops return to their original position,” sources said, adding that presently, about 90 PLA soldiers were camping nearly 500 meters inside the Indian territory

The Indian troops followed by the paramilitary ITBP have also equally strengthened their positions but, according to sources, the Indian authorities were hopeful that the situation will not aggravate further and the issues will be resolved in the Sector Commanders’ meeting, which could take place tomorrow.

Sources said the Defence Ministry and the Union Home Ministry were monitoring the situation very closely from New Delhi. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Home Minister Rajnath Singh were in regular touch with Army and ITBP officials respectively.

Northern Army Commander Lt Gen D S Hooda has briefed Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag about the situation after obtaining detailed reports from General Officer Commanding (GOC) Leh based 14 Corps Lt Gen SK Patyal. The ITBP Commanders have given detailed report on the situation to the Union Home Minister.

Sources said the Indian Army was ready to return the PLA camera and other infrastructure seized by them after demolition of the Chinese Army’s watch tower at Burtse but only after the PLA agreed to retreat from the Indian territory, where they had been camping since yesterday morning.

This is for the first time during incursions by the Chinese Army in Leh that the Indian troops went aggressive and dismantled the watch tower raised by the PLA about 500 meters inside the Indian territory.

Sources said the hut, constructed by the PLA with a solar panel on top, had a camera which recorded the movement of Indian troops. The camera would have given details of every movement of the Indian troops to China, they added.

The construction was done by the PLA to claim that the area belonged to them. This area is adjacent to Depsang plains where PLA had pitched camps in April, 2013 that had led to a three-week long stalemate.

China has been trying to make inroads in Burtse area as it will give access to the PLA to monitor the activities of Indian troops based in Old Patol base besides trying to deny an advantage to India to overlook the Karakoram highway linking the territory illegally occupied by China with Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir(PoK).

Besides, India has an Advanced Ground Landing (AGL) facility in Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) which was activated in August 2013 and the Indian Air Force (IAF) had managed to land a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft at the air strip located at 16,614 feet above sea level.

The initial existence of a hut was seen first on a satellite imagery after which a joint patrol of ITBP and Army was sent to the area to have a report from ground zero. Later, it was decided to demolish the hut which prompted Chinese PLA to reach the area resulting in the face-off.

Indian troops displayed the banners in Chinese asking the PLA to return to their side, the sources said.

India and China share over 4,000 kms of LAC. China claims approximately 90,000 sq km of territory in Arunachal Pradesh besides 38,000 sq kms in Jammu and Kashmir sector.

I personally feel the PLA will try to start a short vicious war within the next few years to try and wrest some territory from us before our economy truly matures and our military buildup starts to build strength. Never forget that while we have the luxury of devoting almost all our forces to a fight on our eastern border the Chinese do not have that advantage.

4) Local and International opinion( with the notable exception of the Pakistanis) remains in favor of India. the Entire west and Russia would love us if we managed to contain and defeat any Chinese adventurism. the Prospect of an emboldened PLA using the morale gained after a victory in India to physically capture the Spratleys, Scarborough Shoals,Paracel islands,Zhenbao and Taiwan scares the Russians and the Americans alike.
in a way youve answered your own questions ...but i'd like to add that i too think a short border war is in the making , all the time and ccpchina will try to grab land off the north of Kashmir to have a thicker swathe of land to link with pakistan and by taking the land off north kashmir, it hope to deny india any good chances of separating the connection of ccp-pack

we cant see the details and logic of the situation unless you are actually on the ground or have aerial view of the area - then you can see the significance of why they want these and those tiny pieces of land ....those tiny pieces have vantage positioning and are of military advantage

in your original post you had mentioned some advantages that india had but i feel we should be cautious still .......the mmrca is taking a heck of a long time and the ccpchinas must be laughing ...secondly they are building all sorts of roads to packland and we should have strategies how to break those connexions

you mentioned international opinion but cpchina doesn't care about that , they know they are the devil and are quite comfortable with that ....what they are doing in SCS is against all international opinion nevertheless they are keeping at it.

secondly you did not factor in help from packland which i believe is an almost certainty ....packland is always gunning for a fight even when they know they are gonna be thrashed to hell , they somehow forget logic and go ahead anyway

bottom line :- what the army did as described on this thread to destroy those observation towers is the way to continue - we show that we are willing to take action ....that keeps our morale high and gives ccpchina a setback

Strong border mean peaceful neighbourhood. China has been testing the water, and if it feels that the water is too deep and dangerous China won't venture in. Pakistan is an exception., it is like a rabid dog, completely unpredictable.

If the next war ends up in a stalemate, it will hurt China's geopolitical clout and will expose it's weaknesses. Being a Superpower aspirant, China is trying to secure it's trade routes and energy sources (SCS and Japan island disputes). There is a method behind this madness. But we must not try to over-analyze and open multiple fronts on land, in air and at sea. Nothing must go unpunished.

China cannot afford a war with India in which they emerge anything but unequivocally victorious; however, they also realize that with growth and modernization in India, a window for such a war might be closing soon in strategic terms.

See the Chinese troops making monkeys out of themselves in the video below. LoL! Being chased away by Indian troops. The Chinese are acting like gays. Check it out......

These turds were even warned by their president 'Eleven Xingping' recently to improve their standard of training as it has hit new lows! And that's quite discernible in this video!
All this happened since Chinese soldiers started mating with Pakis in Pak-China borders tents.

All of a sudden they faced Indian Army and forgot how to handle things like men.

@Neo @Zarvan @musalman @Raja.pakistani : Ok Chinese cheerleaders comment here.

@Sylex21 though not interested in further discussion with u on this I'd make a quick sum-up

1) The pretext of an independent Tibet gives no ground to nego. By your logic India even isn't a nego counterpart. Historically there was no single entity called India but rather various independent kingdoms Ladakh, Kashmir, Dorga etc..

2)how would Dalai Lama become a concern in the border spat? Theoretically it can reincarnate everywhere like the incumbent fm Qinghai.

3) Those lines form the basis for talks.

4) How would it leverage India in its overrated relations with US?

~Tapa talks: Orange is the new black.~
Historically we should talk to Mongolia instead as all of China was part and parcel of Ghengis Khan's empire.
Well that or would you prefer we talk to five different kingdoms instead?

Indian forces have never backed off, they have even fought with hands and knives with these hounds. Few battles we lost to China was because we ran out of bullets.

The so called testing the water is not required because they know Indian reaction. They always come out to show such petty drama lead by some asshole PLA commander to make headlines in India, whenever there are important meets or Pakistan ask them to put pressure from northern side.
