Stable, prosperous Bangladesh in India's interest: President - The Times of India
PTI | Feb 15, 2014, 04.49 PM IST

NEW DELHI: Expressing full commitment to Bangladesh's economic development, President Pranab Mukherjee has said that it was in the interest of India to have a democratic, stable and prosperous Bangladesh.

These views were expressed by the President when speaker of Bangladesh's 'Jatiya Sangsad' (National Parliament) Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury called on him last evening.

Congratulating her on assumption of the office for the second term, the President said India attaches highest importance to its relations with Bangladesh.

"A democratic, stable and prosperous Bangladesh is in India's interest. Geographic and economic complementaries of the two countries can be used for mutual advantage to improve the lives of peoples in India and Bangladesh," Venu Rajamony, Press Secretary of Rashtrapati Bhavan quoted the President as saying.

India is fully committed to be a partner in the economic development of Bangladesh, he said.

Remembering his visit to Bangladesh last year, Mukherjee said the two countries must sustain and accelerate the current momentum in all areas of cooperation.

The President said both India and Bangladesh have constituted Parliamentary Friendship Groups to strengthen cooperation between the two Parliaments.

"There is a need to initiate programmes to stimulate greater interaction through exchanges. Frequent exchanges between the two Parliaments would add another, very useful, dimension to the vibrant and dynamic relationship between both the countries," the President said.

Chaudhury reciprocated the sentiments expressed by the President and said Bangladesh is grateful to India for all its support.

If Bangladesh becomes prosperous, Stable & economically strong, will GOI ask all the Bangladeshis leaving in India to go back to their mother land.

Sending bangladeshis back to their mother land is as good as India bringing back its black monies from swiss banks.

it was always true....... its the only 'LDC' in South Asia, and higher it grows, more it will be worth for their people to remain in this part of world. a very highly populated country, (total population higher than Russia in fact), and the only Least Developed Country of this region, and hence any growth in their current source of earning will only make its neighbors comfortable enough to have it in this region. while growing attacks on the minorities there is not an unusual news for rest of the world too, being discussed in the thread as below :tsk:

Current LDCs
A Least developed country (LDC) is a country that, according to the United Nations, exhibits the lowest indicators of socioeconomic development, with the lowest Human Development Index ratings of all countries in the world. The concept of LDCs originated in the late 1960s and the first group of LDCs was listed by the UN in its resolution 2768 (XXVI) of 18 November 1971.[1] A country is classified as a Least Developed Country if it meets three criteria:[2][3]
