    It is not surprising.

Ma (马; pinyin: Mǎ) is one of the most common Chinese family names. As of 2006, it ranks as the 14th most common Chinese surname in Mainland China and the most common surname within the Chinese Muslim community, specifically the Hui people, Dongxiang people, and Salar people.

The manner in which the Chinese Govt is insulting and crushing the Muslims in China, that there will be a backlash is but natural.

While the Hui people have been Sinicised, yet there appears to be a Born Again Islam seizing the Hui people, given the atrocities unleashed by the Han on minorities like the Muslims and Buddhists of Tibet.

For many Muslims religion comes First before Nationality.

Dangerous times for China unless the Han learn to behave and treat all as equal and allow religious freedom.

It maybe right that Ma has been apprehended and whisked into oblivion as is usually done.

And it is also true that the Chinese, after years of deprivation are now “developed distorted values and indulged themselves, hankering after cash and a life of luxury, so they were easily targeted by foreign intelligence services”.

Money and luxury does corrupt, especially those who have been deprived and having existed in slave like condition in all aspects, to include pay and basic necessities as was the case in China earlier.
