"One shot, one kill" has long been the sniper's creed, but with the changing nature of warfare, that skill is not always enough. In the ongoing war on terror, Army special-operations units often need small teams of snipers who can infiltrate an area undetected, collect and transmit relevant and prioritized real-time information, deliver precision fires and train host-nation snipers. Soldiers who possess those critical skills are much in demand, and training ARSOF snipers in relevant skills and in sufficient numbers to meet the mission requirements of ARSOF units is the responsibility of the JFK Special Warfare Center and School, or SWCS, which teaches the Special Forces Sniper Course, or SFSC.

Familiy of the Polish Army sniper rifles:

12,7 MM ANTI-MATERIEL SNIPER RIFLE TOR





The bolt-action 12,7mm Anti-Materiel Sniper Rifle is fed by 12,7 mm x 99 NATO (.50 BMG) ammunition. It is designed for precise destruction of important enemy objects (specialized technical equipment, command posts, communications objects, tanks of fuel, radar stations etc.) and to destroy enemy's military equipment at the distance of 2000m and more. The Rifle also can be used for the counter-sniper tactics to eliminate the threat caused by an enemy snipers.

The Anti-Materiel Sniper Rifle is used to destroy lightly armoured military equipment (terrain vehicles, aircraft at the airport, helicopters, radar equipment, technical devices etc.), targets protected by light covers at the distance up to 2000 m and living target at the distance over 2000 m.

Main characteristics:


small recoil force (reduced by 70% due to the muzzle brake)
low inertia of firing mechanism elements,
free-floating barrel,
option for using different types of sights,
7 cartridge magazine,
large effective range (up to 2000 m).


8,6 MM SNIPER RIFLE ALEX – 338




The bolt-action Sniper Rifle Alex-338is fed by cartridge 8,6x70mm (.338 Lapua Magnum). The latest material achievements, tactical and ergonomic needs of users were taken into consideration during the process of the rifle construction. Very powerful cartridge 8,6 mm enables to get long range and high efficiency of firing (high accuracy).

The Rifle is designed for precision shooting to living targets at the distance 2000m and to the lightly armoured targets at the distance 1000m and for any other military missions.

7,62 MM SNIPER RIFLE BOR





he bolt-action 7,62 mm Sniper Rifle "BOR" is fed by cartridge 7.62 mm x 51 of NATO standard. The latest material achievements, tactical and ergonomic needs of users were taken into consideration during the process of the rifle construction.The Rifle is equipped with a universal mounting rail for optical devices and additional set of mounting rails for other devices (such as night- vision device and other accessories). The weapon has an effective muzzle brake, folding bipod and rear support.

The Rifle is designed for precision shooting at the distance of 1200m to living targets and lightly armoured military equipment.

Main characteristics


high efficiency of firing (high accuracy),
low recoil force (because of muzzle brake),
free-floating barrel,
small weapon length (bull-pup system) in comparison with the rifles constructed in classical system (with the same overall barrel length in both systems),
high manoeuvrability (low weight, size, centre of gravity located above the pistol grip),
trigger mechanism with very high reliability (low inertia of firing mechanism components),
bolt which is resistant for "ždry" firing – without shell in cartridge chamber.

BOR and TOR sniper rifles where used in Afganistan when works exelent.
Polish Army is buying:
200x 7,62mm (the BOR rifle)
150x 8,6mm (in progres - will be the ALEX 338 rifle)
40x 12,7mm (the TOR rifle)

Of course more and more sniper rifles where buying - accoding to incarese true sniper number in Polish Army.

Small update:
Polish Army have SAKO TRG-21 and TRG-22 rifles too. They where bought in erly 2000s.



Polish Army have:
40x SAKO TRG-21
208x SAKO TRG-22
+
older circa 158 SWD-M - polish mod. old SWD
Karabin wyborowy SWD-M - zapomniana modernizacja

Anyway, exept Special Forces in Polish army there is now circa:

old gen:
158x SWD-M
40x SAKO TRG-21
208x SAKO TRG-22
new gen:
200x 7,62mm (the BOR rifle)
40x 12,7mm (the TOR rifle)
+
during trade for 150x 8,6mm (in progres - will be the ALEX 338 rifle choosen)

Here is a list based on number of kills. By that measure, the top guy is a Finn.

I would like to see what Craig Harrison could do with a Whitworth rifle, or conversely what Sgt Grace of the 4th Georgia Infantry could do with Harrison's weapon.

He (Guinness Worlds Record holder) killed the target from 2475m, longest recorded sniper shot ever as of today.

Alsoo the longest tank on tank killing shot in history (from over 5100m) was fired by the British Challenger tank.
