The hatred for Indians is racial while the hatred for PRCs is based on socio economic factors.

I always wished India's population was a lot smaller. It seems that wherever we go, our reputation precedes us and not in a good way. There are too many Indians and Chinese in the world.

That's what I thought too. 74% of Singapore's population being Chinese. We see the same thing in Taiwan as well.

Apparently, according to the article, it's the curry that's too strong...

Recently in an Indian restaurant, ordered dal makhani, waiter Amol says, "scale of 1 to 5, how strong?" Two, says I, thinking I can handle that. Next time, one. My lady friend said 3 and Amol shook his head, "two."

    From the article:-

Really? Just cause an Indian died cause of an "Accident". I mean come on, This is just plain stupidity.

Well, They deserved it, It wasn't even the bus driver's fault and they all started rioting.

In all fairness, Some Indian immigrants are stupid and they make their country look bad.

Smelly curries, that seems a problem every where, and Indian immigrants are famous for this across the globe, and the way Singapore is, all cramped up in a tiny little place, the flavours and aromas are bound to make way across the households even if you keep your house well ventilated. Anyway, tolerating the smell of food cooked by Chinese is another task really for us Indians!

And this is not the first time I have heard this happening in Singapore.

You guys are missing some context here.

Note that a lot of the immigrants from India and China to Singapore are low skilled workers or manual laborers.
There is a small subsection of professional.....but most are blue-collar or service industry workers.
These guys don't make enough money to survive in Singapore on a middle-class living standard.

Given the extremely high cost of housing and rentals most of these guys cannot afford a single apartment by themselves, so they bundle up with a few renters, sometimes even 4 or 5 to a small apartment.

Imagine a situation where you have 4 or 5 Chinese or Indian guys living in one 2 bedroom apartment and cooking.
Your apartment is going to get thrashed.

But its also true that there is a lot of racism involved too. Singaporeans are now a developed country with a very good standard of living.
They don't want to do any of the low-paid crappy dirty jobs, so they need immigrants from Indonesia, Philippines, China and India to take these jobs.
But at the same time they don't want to deal with this new underclass of immigrants who are not at their socio-economic status.

Bachelors, northies in Chennai, anyone who eats meat in Jain, Brahmin and Vaishnav owned properties, lawyer-journalist-social activist trifecta of difficult tenants, the list is endless.

Why do people care so much about their neighbours?

It's their property, they have a right to rent it to whoever they want. Since the number of good affordable properties is abysmally low, rental agreement interviews are tougher to clear than job interviews.

Why isn't this problem faced by any other country to such an extent?
