Its really a great achievement that Lt.Col. Harjit Singh Sajjan, has become the first Sikh in Canada to take command of a British Columbia regiment. In a historic ceremony, a change of command in the British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught's Own) took place on September 11, 2011, at the Beatty Street Armoury in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Honestly sikhism is one of the major religions in Canada,so its no surprise.Earlier the BC premier was a cutsurd who attracted the ire of extremist sikhs,Uppal Dosanjh.Currently there are two sikh ministers of state in the canadian,Tim Uppal(turbanned) and Bal Gosal(clean shaven) so honestly its not such a big achievement.

I believe Virendra was asking about this particular event, not NRIs in general.

The Sikhs are the earthly lot and hence they are attached to the soil of their ancestors.

They have a great sense of history!
