Movements come and go. India will continue to exist, without relying much on other countries and also not being stereotyped as terrorist state globally.

The dreams of a failing Indian system brings back the 90s mood, it was assumed that everything would collapse and on top of that the surge in J&K militancy made a certain nation have wet dreams back then.

I know that, Gandhi is an easy choice. If they really want to show some gratitude to India, they should accept their mistakes and honor these men.

IMO, it is to hide the fact that they had turned tail as the Army and Navy had started showing signs of imminent revolt which given the condition Britishers were, would have been impossible to suppress. Hence,they highlighted Gandhi and propped up Nehru, to show that they are not running but giving in to more Humane and just act of 'granting' India her independence. They used Gandhi to save their face and total ruination and the 'Mahatma' accommodated them.

How & why ?

He overthrowed Hyderabad NIzam

He united all states into one country called India

He was instrumental in making Raja Harisingh accept Jammu and kashmir to become indian state

He was against Nehru / Gandhi naive politics

Over all he carried out the legacy of Patriotism which was carried out be the greats like Bhagwan Bhagat singh

Sadarji preached and made sure India is United , may be that is the reason why he is hated

Gandhi had his value as a motivator and icon to galvanise India to oppose the British. Of course, he was not prefect since none can be perfect.

Vallabhai Patel also played a great and yeoman's role in knitting the remnants of British India and the Princely surrogates in terms of territories into what is now the political map of India, possibly much against the flow of the popular opinions of Gandhi, the man of love, oozing compassion and peace, and Nehru, who was on this own kick as a great statesman of high social breeding and ideology.

I shudder to think what would be India if Patel had not shown the foresight, vision and grit to make India.

We have seen what the great statesmanship of the Mahatma's favourite, Nehru, has left as his legacy.
